Weight Up, Inches Down...What's Up With That?

Monday, April 12, 2010

Hi my SparkPeople! I am now the mother of a 15 yr old and an 18 yr old. WOW! My youngest daughter turned 15 yesterday. Funny thing is that I still look at my girls and sometimes see them as the little girls they were when they were 5 & 8 or 3 & 6 or 7 & 10. Time doesn't wait. I'm so blessed to be their mother.

Well, I was so excited to weigh in at 186 almost 2 weeks ago...short-lived. I'm back at 188 BUT my inches are steadily decreasing all over my body. Fortunately, I have been diligent in keeping track of my measurements so I have more than one way of assessing my progress. I've decided that I won't beat myself up about gaining back 2 pounds. Instead I've decided to be honest with myself about what I can improve upon and work on those areas. Also, I'll congratulate myself on the things that I have been doing well with. So, I've got 30 pounds to lose to get to my goal weight...I'm still down 42 pounds. I can still do this and I WILL!!!

Thanks for sharing. I have experienced that in reverse. No weight gain when I quit exercising but I have gained inches! But I shared your post with my oldest and she needed that encouragement emoticon

Keep up the good work and don't get discourage...that's what I am telling myself these days..been in a little funk and trying to get out of it! In the end, inches far outweigh the number on the scale! :) emoticon

You can do it girl! I wouldn't consider this a setback, you have loss tons of inches! Sometimes we get fixated on numbers so its good that you are noting your progress in other areas as well. You got this in the bag! I'm rooting for you!

Yes, emoticon !!! I know we would love for the scale to match up with the inches, but lost inches means a smaller body, smaller size, etc. So you should be very proud of your progress so far, and I'm so glad that you are keeping a positive mindset and measuring your body by more than just the scale. Good job on losing more and more inches!!

and there seems to be a lot of birthdays in April. My daughter turns 10 on Saturday, and I was just reflecting the other day on how it seems like just yesterday that she was born or just a toddler like my 3yr old...wow, how time flies! Bittersweet... emoticon emoticon

Yeah take the inches, b/c 2 pounds is not that big of a deal especially if the clothes sizes are dropping! Keep up the great work!!! Over 40 pounds is a lot to be proud of!

It can be disheartening to see that scale go up-- like you said, it's good you're measuring your progress other ways too. Congrats on the great weight loss so far and with your plan, the scales will definitely be going down. emoticon

Hi friend.................. emoticon emoticon on your progress!!!! Don't worry too much about the 2 pounds, it's probably muscle (which weighs more than fat). Those inches lost are adding up so emoticon to you!!!! I know we all aim for a "number" but look at how far you've come!!!! Keep up the emoticon work!!!!

Congrats on losing the inches. The weight gain could be that your body is building muscle as you are toning. I have experienced that myself ... the scale says I am up 2 pounds but my cloths say I've lost inches because of how they fit. Don't give up the battle (as my co-workers said to me), it will all even out over time.
