While I was out recuperating from my shoulder surgery I was feeling down and depressed my only form of social life was going to doctor, dentist, and physical therapy appointments and the occasional grocery shopping trip. I wanted to do something more with my life.

Once feeling a little stronger I called my distant learning school Excelsior in Albany and asked if they knew of any way other than taking out any further loans to be able to continue with my education. The person in financial aid suggested that I put in for a FASA knowing that I would get rejected because at this school nursing students are not eligible for FASA. She sent me via e-mail a form entitled a "certain circumstance" and I had to send that back with proof of my income.

A few weeks later I got the SEN back telling me that I was not eligible for FASA and then a few days later I was online at my college's web page and looked into my web page entitled "MY EC" and was surprised to see that this girl submitted my paperwork to the college's Scholarship Board and that I received the Excelsior College's Presidential Scholarship. The scholarship is not very large but it will be enough for me to resume my studying and take two of my seven remaining theory examinations. She told me if my circumstances do not change for the 2010-1011 fiscal year that I can try again but there were no guarantee that I would get another scholarship but that it was worth trying.
