Login SparkPoints -- Letting go of things that don't matter...

Sunday, April 11, 2010

Well, I have been working diligently on my 100 day SparkStreak. I have several goals:

~ log in each day and spin the wheel
~ post daily gratitudes
~ work out at least 10 minutes each day (baby steps)
~ drink at least 6 glasses of water
~ eat at least 4 fruits and veggies each day

So...yesterday, I broke one of my streaks. Actually, I am not sure if I broke it or if some glitch in the SP site missed it. My login (spin the wheel) points don't show up. And my streak on that particular goal went from 93 days to 1.

At first I was quite upset by this. Only 7 days to 100! Then, I began to looking into who I could "blame" for this. I thought I should contact someone and let them know there had been some mistake! I even went and searched the FAQs to see if anyone else had had a problem with this. It was after about 10 minutes of stewing that I realized that this was the ONE goal that, although motivating, was not REALLY tied to my new healthy lifestyle, EXCEPT as an incentive to get me here.

Clearly, I had posted my gratitudes yesterday, done my workout, drank my water, etc. So...the loss of the streak in this particular category was perhaps a message to me not to obsess over the PERFECTION of the process, but rather the PROGRESS of the process -- and a message given in the kindest possible way, really.

Ok, now i get it. It really is about the journey. Thanks for the reminder, Universe! The Universe is certainly consistent in her messages to me of late! I'll give her that one! Always watching over me, too!

Really like this blog: and in particular, its reminder to me not to obsess about perfection, not to permit myself to get annoyed when the "streaks" I've "earned" aren't "recorded" because of an SP glitch (yup, happens to me too) because they ARE recorded: in my health, my commitment, my motivation, my connection to this community.

Oh, well this is interesting. I took Maha's advice and went to post my "problem" with Technical Support. It appears that some members have had problems with the SparkWheel the last couple of days. I posted a new thread mentioning my problem might be related but seemed to be connected to spinning the wheel from my cell phone (actually you don't "spin" from the cell, but you can get your points). I had forgotten that I had gotten my points this way yesterday -- it was the first time I had tried it!

So, yes I know I am spending more time on this, BUT it seemed a good use of the short time it took AND it might help them solve the issue of the "missing SparkWheel" for some members!

    That's my justification anyway...

Thanks for all your help and support! Yes, my SparkStreak continues! Onward!

****** ADDENDUM: AND, I just noticed I crossed 5000 SparkPoints (and got a nifty NEW trophy!) with this very post (this is an edit to let you know!). Coincidence? I, personally, don't believe in them! :-)

Blessings to all and much gratitude!

FYI . . . I would have been upset, too! But WalkingAnnie makes a good point -- you're still on your streak . . .

Ok...quick peek-in to say YES SISTAH! You've got your priorites properly sorted and assigned!

And also, a FYI: You might want to send a note here so that they're aware of the glitch:

    Top menu: Select "Community"
    Select: "Message Boards"
Under "Get Help Here" select: "Sit/Technical Help"
    Select: "Create a New Topic"

I've almost always gotten useful answers here!

Congratulations on your streak. Just because it isn't recorded in SP doesn't mean it didn't happen. You know it did and now we know that you did too.

It was helpful for me to read your blog today. It seems that we're coming to similar conclusions by different routes.Points are motivating and a means to an end but they are not an end in themsleves.

Here's to healthy living and to finding silver linings as we learn from our experiences.

Hope you have a good week.

Gina - You SO get it. I LOVE to spin the Spark wheel, but you are so right. It simply helps get me there. Aren't those "aha" moments great?

You have your priorities right, girlfriend!!!! Glad you didn't spend any more time than 10 minutes stewing about it!! LOL
