Happenings since my Mar. 24 blog

Saturday, April 10, 2010

In my March 24th blog I expressed some of my disappointment and frustration with myself for not being able to do better on this journey to healthier living. I was not feeling motivated, and I was not making much progress. Well since then, some pretty cool things have happened.

I got some great responses from people out there in SPLand giving me encouragement and support.

There was the March 28th SP Healthy Reflections email (which I blogged about).

Then on Monday the 29th, I went for my weekly appointment with my trainer at the gym. The person who was supposed to come after me cancelled, so my trainer kindly gave me some extra time. He sat down on the mat with me and asked me how I was doing during the rest of the week when I wasn't training with him. I told him I wasn't doing very well, that I was having a hard time getting motivated, and I wasn't eating very well or exercising very much. He was very nice to me, and wanted to help. He pointed out that I always come for my appointments with him, so he suggested that I have "pretend appointments" on other days during the week. We set up a schedule for me to come to the gym four days a week, and pretend that I had an appointment with him, and maybe that would help make me go. Then on that Wednesday, it actually worked. I went to the gym because I had told him I would go, even though I didn't have a real appointment. He even saw me while I was there and came over and congratulated me for coming. I thought that was really sweet.

Also that week, for no particular reason, my boyfriend started to want us to go walking around the neighborhood together after work for exercise. We've done it six different days already.

So after admitting that I couldn't do all this by myself, I suddenly got help from several different directions. Isn't that awesome?!

Yes it is awesome. But the first step was you admitting that you need help. We all want to do things on our own but sometimes we just can't and have to get help and there's no shame in that.

That is so wonderful! I am glad that you are getting some support from these guys - I think it is helpful to have people to do some fitness things with, and who you can be accountable to.

I am really happy that things are going better with the motivation! emoticon
