Who would have thought I'd have runners for kids? My 11 yo, Tristan, especially loves to run, and he runs distance - 800M and 1500M or Mile, and 3000M summer track and Cross Country - and has for a couple of years. My 9 yo, Nicholas, doesn't love it nearly as much, but he doesn't want to be left out.
So, here we are, heading off in a few minutes for the first meet of the season. It's a practice meet, so the kids can get a taste of what a meet is like before the qualifying meet in two weeks when it counts - only the top 4 finishers from the two qualifying meets get to go to the Championships in May (school district of 26 elementary schools is divided in half for each meet). Tristan has qualified the last two years. He's not as conditioned this year... too many missed practices because of life getting in the way... hopefully, he's prepared enough to qualify - I so don't want him dissapointed. He's changed schools this year, so he's running with a new team - the only distance runner they have, so he's been practicing with his old school's team which is mostly distance runners for some reason. (Thank you John and Mona for including him!)
Have fun and good luck boys!
