Happy Easter, Happy Spring!

Sunday, April 04, 2010

The only holidays I know of are Passover & Easter - and I wish everyone a happy holiday of their own choosing!

My dad is doing much better! He has become afraid of sleeping pills and we now believe he was addicted to the Ambien which is why he kept needing more and they weren't working. Even though the new pill was reduced by 75%, he is hesitant to use them after having such a bad reaction to them. Apparently still being doped up after Dialysis is not normal - the procedure of Dialysis is supposed to remove all medicines from the body & bloodstream. They were shocked that even after the Dialysis last week he was still groggy from the half a pill.

My dad is now much more alert although still quite weak. The truly scary thing is, had he been in a nursing home, they would have left him on that too high dosage and just let him sleep! This is why I have to try to keep him at home.

Thank you for all your prayers. I do believe in the power of prayer and I know this has helped my father and my family as well as me!

Love you,

So glad your dad is doing better. My grandmother was in a nursing home in the 80s. My aunt had a particular home in mind, but when the time came they did not have room, so she went elsewhere. One day my cousin (a nurse) looked at her meds, and apparently she was really being doped up! So my aunt kicked and screamed and got her into the nursing home she wanted. I believe things improved.

I know Dad is better off at home with you, but I have seen some very loving relatives (and some not quite so loving) who had to move their parents when they became too much too handle. If my mother goes first, there is no way I will be able to handle my father. You are truly a saint, but we already knew that.

I am so glad to hear that your Dad is doing better. You are right about the nursing home. They would do what is easiest for them and not necessarily what is best for your Dad. He is very lucky to have you!

I also believe in the power of prayer and will continue to hold you, your DH and your Dad in my prayers. Blessings to you all! :)

The elderly need advocates in nursing homes and hospitals, if not they will get lost in the shuffle. You are fortunate that you are able to keep him with you and care for him. You are a good daughter!
I'm keeping you both in my prayers. emoticon

Nursing homes and hospitals can be very scary places. It makes me sick to think about how many people believe a quiet patient is a good patient.

You are an angel. I just hope that if I have to be in a NH, I hope some will watch out for me the way you do with your dad. Bob emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'm so glad he has such a vigilant daughter to take care of him. That's a scarey scenario! I hope he continues to do well, under your care.

Happy Easter, Passover, or Spring, my friend!
