So my fiance and I had a big talk the other day. We decided that after we get married in July, we want to start having children right away, and we are hoping to get pregnant by September. Although this seems fairly quick, we have been together for almost 8 years and are financially and emotionally ready for a baby. But there is also one big reason we want to try now and not wait until we are older. I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycycstic ovary syndrome) late last year, and it is the number one cause of infertility in women. I don't want to wait five years to realize that it has effected my ovaries to the point where having children isn't possible.
Women with PCOS have to have lots of help to have babies, often need fertility drugs and other methods of help, which I am hoping I won't have to use. Another symptom of the syndrome is obesity and a MUCH higher potential to develop diabetes. I recently found out that losing 10% of my overall body weight can improve my chances of getting pregnant almost 45%! So there it is... not only do I want to lose weight to look great at my wedding, but I really want to have a baby, and losing weight is a MUST if I want that to happen.
So I've got some new goals and new motivation: lose a minimum of 10% of my weight (so roughly 19 pounds) and start eating a lower carb diet to ensure I keep my insulin levels under control (they are good now, but can get out of whack really easily). I want to be a Mommy and get healthier, so losing weight is a non-negotiable!
LET'S DO THIS!
