Can't stick with it

Argh! I don't know what is wrong with me, but I can't stick to my plans for living healthier. My motivation is all over the place: sometimes really high, but more often really low or somewhere in between. I can't seem to maintain anything, or keep much momentum going toward my goals. I'm feeling really frustrated with myself. I think I am going to try an experiment and just set daily goals for a little while. Maybe that way I can build up some successes and feel better about myself. Here's hoping that will get me started back up on the right track again.

    THanks for sharing! I have had several weeks where I felt that way and it can be so discouraging! I think you are right on track in terms of setting some daily goals. I think sometimes it's good to refocus on small details that are achievable, and build a sense of success on that to build momentum. Definitely don't give up! I'm rooting for you!!!

    Try making small short term goals. Or just one small short term goal. Sometimes we get overwhelmed by trying to do too much. Decide on ONE thing that you want to do for a week. You can do it for a week, right? After the week is up, re-evaluate.

    That is a great idea. Little daily goals. Choose water over soda. Take the stairs or park at the far end of the parking lot. Lots of little daily changes that may not create a big loss, but will, over time, create a new way of life with you hardly even feeling like it was a big deal.

I notice now I always ask for my dressing on the side at a restaurant and get water to drink, I never even thought about before. I don't even blink when I buy cheese anymore and automatically get the reduced fat.

Lots of little things like that do add up and do make you feel like you are a success with no stress at all. Then it's like a strong base of building blocks to start stacking more things on.

Keep up the good work and positive attitude! It will all fall into place before you know it!

    I swear, I feel like I just read my own blog post...my motivation is SKY HIGH...just taking one look at my kids reminds me why I want to lose weight and be healthy. I don't eat poorly, I just have a problem with portion-control and exercising. I am having a really hard time staying on top of things, and am so frustrated. I hope that you will find some solace in knowing that you are not alone in your struggles. Just remember, everyday is new with no mistakes in it.     Finding our motivation is terribly hard and frustrating for all of us. None of us lose weight by accident.

Visualize what you want to be, what you want to look like, how you want a life of eating appropriate portions of healthy food and engage in daily physical activity.

We can set ourselves up to stay overweight and out of shape, or we can choose to have a healthier life and lose weight. Keep reminding yourself that the food cannot control your hands, only your mind. Dismiss the thought when it creeps into your consciousness and tell yourself that just for today, I will eat the way I planned.

    I know how you feel! My motivation has been especially low lately. But a few days ago, I decided I would just start with drinking water. It's something I find easy during the work week, but tougher on the weekends. I've reached this goal for 7 days so far. I've had smaller successes, too, like choosing a healthier option in the cafeteria or doing 10 min exercise. Good luck on regaining your motivation & getting back into a healthier lifestyle!

    I think that's a great idea! We often put way too much pressure on ourselves to change everything at once. It took a lifetime to get into these habits and we expect to change them completely overnight. One day at a time, one hour if you have to break it down even further. Those hours and days will add up and before you know it, you'll be in control more often than not. emoticon
