This morning there were 9 babies (out of 11 eggs) in the incubator. They have been moved to a crate equipped with a lamp for heat, water, and food, plus little socks to cozy up on. The yellow chicks are day old chicks that the kindergarten teacher ordered. They just arrived today, and are in with my Australorp and barred rock babies.
The children are all thrilled and have been wonderful with the babies, and I have been like a mother hen since they started hatching.
The two eggs that haven't hatched do not show signs of pipping, so they may not have survived embryo-hood. However, there can be a few days between hatching for a clutch, so they are still being warmed in the incubator.
Such a wonderful way to bring in spring!
