I start the day croopy, but fairly quickly clear up and am good to go throughout the day...had another glorious Nordic walk along our downtown Riverwalk today for about an hour. Feel like a million bucks!
Get out of work, come home, take care of some things, settle into SP, etc. and back comes the crud and hacking, coughing yuck-stuff to nag at me through the night.
Some have suggested the Neti-Pot, which I've resisted mightily as it just sounds so unpleasant to use...but I think this crud is even MORE unpleasant!
Don... the Neti pot Is SO GOOD for rinsing the pollen out of your nose... I used mine tonight..as i've been outside all day and noticed i'm stuffy...so better not have caught a cold from my hubby. :(
Sorry you are not feeling well Don! I have thought about using a Neti-pot, since I do get sinus congestion quite a bit, but have not yet taken the plunge, so to speak. I hear they do work well, so maybe I'll get one and try it also. Hope you feel better soon! The sun beckons... 2708 days ago
I was really reluctant to use a Neti up until about a year ago. So as needed when I'm really stuffed up, I'll do it and it's absolutely amazing...really clears out your sinus' and just makes you feel better. It's the real deal, and with spring allergens in the air...thanks for the reminder, I'm gonna dig mine out this weekend! Ryan 2709 days ago
I personally dig the neti pot whenever I feel sick or stuffed up. It doesn't necessarily help with lung congestion but it helps a lot with stuffy nose and sinus congestion. I've long had the neti pot from Whole Foods: http://graphics8.nytimes.com/ images/2008/01/02/fashion/03ski nside190.3a.jpg but I also recently acquired the NeilMed squirt bottle version: http://www.neilmed.com/usa/si nusrinse.php and I found it genius to do the squirt bottle then the neti pot right after when I was sick two weeks ago. I've long used the fine sea salt they sell at Whole Foods, but I've also tried the NeilMed packets and I don't think I feel a functional difference. All it really seems to do for me is to clean EVERYTHING out of my nose and sinuses which lets me breathe pretty easily for a period of time. And yes, the feeling is a bit strange at first - just DON'T do it without the salt in the water, and experiment a bit to get the right head angle forward/back. It's unpleasant if it pours down the throat, but that doesn't happen with the slightly forward head angle I use so that the water won't run down my chin.
I agree with 4A, though, it does sound like there is an allergen in your home. How long since a furnace filter change, or switch to a better one? Perhaps turn the furnace fan to "on" to continuously filter the air. That helps my brother and GF a lot during high-allergen periods.
I have one. I use it occasionally. I had a doctor say to use it when coming in from being out and about town just to wipe out irritants. I haven't gone that far. I get a lot of nasal and sinus irritation though. I am finally clearing up a bit more today. Though, not if I don't get to bed soon. LOL. Take care Don and feel better reallly soon. Fresh air was good for me today, too. Hugs, Karen 2709 days ago
I love the neti- pot! I use the squirt bottle version. My husband refers to it as my "waterboarding", but it's not unpleasant at all. My ENT dr. says that we all culture mold in our sinuses (a creepy thought!) and some people react worse to it than others. It help to flush out the mold spores. I hope you get it cleared up. Respiratory/sinus crud can sure sap your energy! Joanne 2709 days ago
