Although it's spring break, I'm working in clinic. Our patients need us -we are open year round. My legs feel like they have been put through a meat grinder after yesterday's run- lactic acid build up. Ok, so the run felt good at the time. They should feel totally shredded after 12-14 hours of on the run at clinic. The weather is perfect so there will be no cancellations due to weather. I'm taking a few moments to drink my coffee and mentally prep for the day.
The residency app process has continued to be a bust. Remember how I decided to really beef up my vitae? A really cool opportunity has come my way. There is a program in my area that teaches social skills to Asperger's teens. I read about it in my local paper, did some googling to find out the person who runs it. I sent off my credentials stating I was interested in learning how this program was established and what types of therapy are being done. So this summer, I will be doing a practica in that setting. Yes it is for free, but I am hoping that this will make me look more attractive to the sites I really wanted last fall. I am doing a Spanish module on psych interviewing and struggling. I am frustrated because I can read and comprehend Spanish, albeit very slowly, but listening to a native speaker...I cannot keep up with the pace of the conversation. I think I need immersion.
My son is so funny. He is on spring break too. He keeps telling me we need to go back down to Mexico. He loves to travel . He has learned a fair amount of Mandarin from our international friends and has actually found a new friend at school in the ESL program to talk with at lunch. I'm stopping of at the Hispanic market after work, I need a tortilla press and blue corn masa. I plan on doing this transaction in Spanish, hopefully I will not insult anyone.....
