We are still in New Orleans for another week and then off to Florida for another 5 weeks.... just long enough to escape the awful months of March and Aprl in Western New York.... YUK.
We have been biking and trikking on the Tammany Trace which is a 34 mi Rails-to-Trails path and is so incredibly well maintained it is a true joy to be out on it nearly every day. The furthest we have gone in one day is 22 mi round trip. Our fannies were very tired AND I do think I am literally working the small butt that I have always have had off. LOL
The challenge for me is the food. We eat out at least once each day as we are either biking or sight-seeing. The food is very rich with sauces, cheese, butta', and while I have tried to be careful about what I choose, it is still challenging. I eat only part of my meal and even then it is far more cals than what I am used to eating. BTW I tried crawfish (NEVER thought I would) and they are absolutely delicious. I even peeled one myself (eeewww).
The only answer to the rich food has been to control other meals during the day and cook dinner at "home" as often as possible. Not too many places offer the salads we are used to having and certainly not the great greens (except collards in bacon fat etc).
The good news is that along with lifting the weights I bought and the other exercises of biking, trikking, walking Daisy, I think I am maintaining. Talk about a lifestyle and figuring it all out.
When all else fails, I think about Diabetes and killing my pancreas. If that doesn't do it, I don't kow what else does. LOL
