Cheesecake/Michael

Monday, March 15, 2010

My Daughter-in-law came over with the kids last night,Nicholas, who just turned 3, and Brady 3 months old. I just love her, she's such a good Mom. And my Grand kids, wow!! talk about unconditional love! Nicholas was telling everyone how he slept over "Nee-Nee's" house, and I made him pancakes for breakfast! (never happened emoticon) Brady is now turning over, and I love his expression, eyes like soup-plates!!! But cheesecake-Briana knows how much I love it,I have to avoid it at Walmart when I go their, because I'm the only one here who loves it. She brought over the 12 inch one, and yes last night I had 2 pieces. I told her take the rest to work, but no she had to leave it here. Today will definitely be a tough day-Thank God its not the chocolate cheesecake. Needless to say,my belly isn't feeling great today. After you start eating healthy, when he put those kind of calories in your body, mine reacts like "What are you doing!" emoticon

My Son Michael called from overseas this morning at 4 am!! When I heard the phone ring,as probably everyone else, your hair sticks up on your neck, and your heart takes a few extra beats. But when I heard his voice, it was so Great! Talking to him on the computer was special the other day,but hearing his voice was just what I needed! He can't of course tell me where he is,only that he's under way for "Operation- Freedom" He'[s due to come back in July, and God willing all will be quiet here with John, and maybe even the Nursing slots will be filled with some good nurse's! Hey, I'm hopeful! I was able to see Michael come Home once before, and it is truly amazing-The ship coming around the corner with the Sailors on Deck, saluting. Its an absolutely breath taking,goose-bump sight!!!!

Sooooooo with that cheesecake, I will have to work a little harder today, keep my sight on the prize emoticon

My kids idea of happy birthday is cake and icing and icecream and this month because I was traveling for my birthday, I got taken out for dinner and two people made birthday cakes for me. Well, next year, way ahead of time, I am going to tell my kids that I am having a celebration for my twin and my birthday and inviting them over to my house. I am going to plan a fruit arrangement that I see advertised and have them all play games and go for a walk of a swim party..........REALLY, I am. Because I am the one who passed on the fattening birthday habit.

Kathleen, I hear ya on the cheesecake........that is a real downfall for me.....best if I just don't have it in the house but treat myself if we got out to a restaurant that serves really good cheesecake!

So wonderful to get to talk to your son......that must have made your day!

God bless!

I'm having a similar "cheesecake" problem. One of my girlfriends is an excellent baker, and my husband did some de-icing of her roof this winter. As a thank you she keeps bringing over wonderful desserts every couple of weeks. I'm usually pretty good about just taking a small piece and letting hubby devour the rest (he can eat like a horse and not gain weight, but next year when he hits 35 I'm waiting for it all to hit him at once) but every once in a while she makes something he's not too crazy about, and it usually ends up being something I find irresistable. As a matter of fact, hubby sent me a note at work to tell me that lemon bars on are the way to our house as I write this. Looks like I'll be walking a few extra miles...

Kathleen - know what you mean about cheesecake, I make a couple killer varieties (the one is a white chocolate cheesecake, with a lemon curd ; I mike the same cheesecake with an orange curd - and both varieties I like to sprinkle with some fresh berry sauce)...Only make a few times a year, but boy is it good!

So glad Michael is doing so well, that was so sweet of him. I hope the nursing situation is going better

I'm so glad you got to talk to your son. I"m sure its hard to be away from him. It's hard finding someone you trust to take care of the people you love the way you want them to. I'll keep my fingers crossed you'll find somone soon! emoticon

How wonderful to hear from your son! You and he are in my prayers for his safe return in the summer.
I know what you mean about seeing a military ship come into port. A friend of mine lives in Boston in the seaport district; so she can see the huge Navy ships come in - a sight to see, when I've been there when a ship comes in. It must be so much more spectacular when a loved one is on board.
I don't think I could resist the cheesecake either if someone brought it to the house. I usually can twist someone's arm to take leftovers with them by telling them I will throw it out if they leave it. If they say "no", then I proceed to throw it out in front of them. Everyone hates to waste food, including me, but because I WILL eat it all I have to think of it as "garbage".
