I ate out twice today...lunch at La Tapatia (Mexican) and dinner at Matsuri's (Japanese). I felt really in control.
La Tapatia: 6 small tortilla chips with salsa, 1/2 wet California burrito (filled with roasted veggies, whole black beans and guacamolé, with enchilada sauce on top), 3 glasses of water
Matsuri's: 1 yakitori (chicken teriyaki skewer grilled with shiitake mushrooms and scallions), sea steak salad (seared red tuna over a bed of lettuce, 3 roasted asparagus spears, avocado, sliced cucumbers, 2 grape tomatoes, with miso dressing on the side...dipped chopsticks before each bite), tofu and enoki mushrooms from DD's udon soup, 2 glasses water, 1 cup green tea.
Normally, I'd have had a whole chicken burrito with rice and beans as a side, a basket of tortilla chips with salsa, flan, and a margarita as well as water at a Mexican restaurant and have felt overstuffed afterwards. At a Japanese restaurant, I'd have pigged out on pork katsu (fried breaded pork fillet dipped in katsu sauce), at least two kinds of sushi (Pink Lady, Spider-maki, Caterpillar, California roll, etc.), salad drowning in miso dressing, and plum wine. Again, I'd have eaten until discomfort. We don't eat out often, so I thought enjoy the food when I can, right? Today, my focus was to savor the food. Eat less and enjoy the tastes, emphasis on taste. Eating only 1/2 the burrito will allow me to enjoy the meal tomorrow as well as today. Eating less at Matsuri's allowed me to really enjoy the taste instead of overwhelming my mouth.
This gives me hope that I'll be able to eat well while traveling and when out with friends and family. After tracking my food, I found I could have ordered a flan to share with my friends and still been within the calorie range! I had a great time, eating and talking with my friends and my family and didn't have to over indulge with food and drink! What a concept!!
