How many hours to spend online at SparkPeople?

Saturday, March 13, 2010

I am having to reallocate some of my time. Spring and Summer are on the way and I am going to be doing much more walking outside as well as trying to find time to do more of my exercise DVD's.

Please bear with me as I try to prioritize my Spark-time.

I am still here if needed - just might not be quite as visible every day. Maybe I need to do some things one day and different things the next day - I just need to figure it all out.

Love you all,
Linda

**edit: I have no intention of disappearing from SparkPeople! I still want to be here to help encourage others to be successful on their journeys to healthier bodies!

I just have to figure how to allocate time for what I want to do. Posting at the Introduce Yourself Forum, following the Friends Feed, greeting new members at my teams, reading blogs - it all adds up.

And I intend to go offline at 7pm daily. I must take an hour of downtime before bed. It will all work out!

Thank you, Linda, for all the encouragement you give to all of us. I only hope I can do as well as you have. I currently am spending a lot of time here just to get all my day's points I am entitled to. I do not read near as many blogs and other things as I would like to and I probably should get into more posting.....but I do have alot of other responsibilities I need to take care of. You have done so well that you deserve to take a bit of time for yourself and your family. Just do not forget all of us who are still struggling to get to where you are! Love ya GF!

Time management is important. Good for you, Linda, in taking the time to establish your priorities. You are such an amazing person to want to help others, but do what's right for you.

I've also started changing how much time is spent on SP...don't get me wrong, I have no intention of dropping out of sight, but I am *soclose* to my goal. I hope if I can get outside more I'll get there quicker. Do what you have to do, my friend! SP is supposed to be a tool not a burden.

    Dear Linda,

I'm with you 100% on this! Community is good, but I, too, am seeing it as a bad decision to spend multiple hours hunched over the computer screen.

Record a few things and putting in a brief word to friends in need is about right on a good day.

What I expect to find on a "needy" day, if I choose to use the computer, is other people in "needy" mode who are also happening to choose to use the computer.

I'm glad for you and for any friend who is able to be out and about!

Make whatever changes you need. I'll be checking for you. I'll probably be doing the same when we can get out to the garden, etc. Have a wonderful weekend!

I've been doing the same thing lately. It's funny that we're here to be fit and healthy then we worry when we're on our feet and away from the computer haha. Good Luck hope you figure it out.

It is tough finding the balance, isn't it? I get on in the morning for 30 to 60 minutes, then update my activity later for about 10 minutes. I'm not on during weekends at all. I have a huge garden, so soon it will be less. I miss my friends, but have a busy life.

It's tough finding time to fit everything in. I think my house has suffered since I recommitted to Spark. LOL.
We will miss you but you have to come first. Do what works for you. Diane

Do what you need to do Linda. We all appreciate your support but you need to know that we support you too - and that includes respecting that you must prioritise your time.

Obviously you'll be missed but thanks for letting us know about your plans so that we aren't worried about why you might not be here as much.

Look forward to keeping in touch when you are around.

Its easy to spend more time on the computer during the unpleasant days of winter, however once Spring and Summer come you should be outside more, enjoying the weather and burning calories. Enjoy, have fun!!

I've had to do the same...don't read many of the blogs ~ try to keep up, but we only have so many hours in a day! I agree with someone below who said the friend feed is a good way to just stay connected.
You have been a real encouragement!!! emoticon

I had to pick my all time favorite teams and do away with a few other ones. I guess as a person here working toward a goal, I'd hope people that have succeeded would stay and help some of us along, and so on, and so on. I know there has been a few people that I really admired that did so well and just left one day and I haven't seen them back. It does worry me whether they left because of time or that they are gaining back and do not want to come back. I would hope that, if someone is struggling they would come back and let the program work again for them. I know personally that the input of the ones that have succeeded and are doing maintenance is so important to me. But, I also plan when I succeed and am doing maintenance sticking around and helping others. I try my best now to help who I can, and hopeful they will also help another, and another, and so on, and so on. This works here on SP and I plan on staying her until they bury me :-)
But there are times in our lives that we can be here more and other times less. But that is life :-)
Hugs, Em
PS Linda you are amazing!

i recently saw where someone left this team. they had read the book, lost weight, and finished the program. they said they had to re-organize their time also. they said like a lot of people when they joined they had made everybody a friend and joined all the teams and now it had gotten to be too overwhealming keeping up with all the people and teams. so she said she was keeping the friends and teams that meant the most to her in her journey and was leaving the other teams. everyone that posted a response was very kind, wished her luck on her journey, and some said they were going to re- think their own teams and leave the ones they weren't really involved in. so don't feel bad, just do what you can wherever you want to on sparks. remember it is your journey and i wish you a great one !!

I hear you , Linda, and have been thinking of this myself. I have a huge yard which requires tending in the spring/summer + I started that pruning and wood chipping project last fall.

I also have joined the flylady cleaning system, to help get my house in order and keep it that way.

So I too will be spending less time...but still want to log food and exercise.

`I think the friend feed feature is a quick and easy way to keep up with folks. `not too many points are earned, but one can keep encouraging others that way.

Best of luck to you in your spring and summer planning.

Martha
