Reverse Portion Distortion?

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

So, since I'm in the 2nd section of the Fast Break I decided that I should take the advice and start measuring items I had been just "eyeballing", imagine my surprise to find that I had been UNDERestimating nearly everything I ws eating. What I was calling a Tbsp of peanut butter was really about 1/2 as much and when I actually weighed mat portions they were also about 1/2. No wonder I've been hungry! I guess I need to measure things for a while just so I can get the amount of calories I am logging. :)

That's pretty funny. I had very much the opposite problem... but I've been measuring for so long that now it's kind of second nature. That's great though!

Yes, I even travel with my measuring cups, spoons, and scale!

After about a month on SP, my husband got me a food scale. I realized that I was under-eating in a lot of areas, and glad to know I could eat a little more, because to be honest, I was often hungry! Enjoy the larger portions emoticon

I have a tendency to overestimate pastas and rice but underestimate meats. I don't measure all the time, but I do try to spot-check myself every couple weeks to keep distortion from creeping in and taking over.

I agree. Measuring things is really eye-opening, especially with peanut butter.

    Good job!

Measuring is the only way I can know for sure. I am more successful when I write it down and add it up. Good looking out for the rest of us. I'm going to try real hard to write it down. Have a good day!
