A week of surprises, some bad some good

Sunday, March 07, 2010

What an emotional week this has been! The man that I care for suffered several TIA's last Monday. It has effected me in a powerful way and I spent many extra hours with him so that he would not be alone.

The thing that really pleases me is that even though I had many extra hours with him, I didn't throw the exercise out the window. Instead, I didn't go to my normal classes, but did vigorous walk/run intervals while listening to my ipod. Six months ago, I would have easily bagged the exercise, now it's a habit that I must say, I ENJOY!

Another shocking thing this past week has been that my scale has been surprising me! I went months either on a plateau or up one, down two, up, down, etc. The scale has shown me to lose either 3-4 pounds this week. I am very content with a pound loss weekly so this is a great bonus! I hit my 1/2 way mark of weight loss and because of the high emotional things going on it didn't register until the next day!!

I am so thankful that God has provided Spark People with all of it's tremendous tools and especially the great friendships and encouragements from others walking the same path! Thank you, fellow sparkies!! emoticon emoticon

Congratulations on both the HALF WAY mark and sticking with the exercise during a tough time. I'm getting to that point where I am also enjoying the exercise.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Ritarose, I'm sorry you're going through such a difficult time with your patient and am offering prayers for both of you. It sounds like you're discovering that sticking to your program actually helps you deal which is a strengthening discovery. Best wishes for his continuing recovery and your continuing success.

Good for you for keeping up with exercise! It is easy for those who are caretakers for others to forget about taking care of themselves. I'm glad you're taking time to care for you too.

Also, having had some personal experience with caretakers when my husband nearly died this summer, I want to say thank you for what you do. People who care for the ill are angels on earth.
