30% Body Fat

I went to my gym today to get my body fat percentage tested as well as my metabolism. They had a company bring their "bod pod" to try and sell their weight loss products, which I doubt I'd spend money on. I had to make sure not to exercise or eat for two hours before the test as either could affect it. Two and a half hours before I made sure to eat a small lunch of a hummus wrap and some FSTG chips.



I showed up to the testing to find out they left behind the tools to determine my metabolism. Boo! That's the main thing I was curious about. I want to know if my metabolism is humming along in the way it should or not! So instead, I hopped in the bod pod so they could determine my body fat percentage.



Apparently, 70% of my body weight is lean muscle mass and 30% is FAT! Apparently this means that I am "moderately lean" which is apparently acceptable for good health. Although just barely. Moderately lean runs from 23-30% body fat. To get to "lean" I would need to have a body fat percentage of 12-22%. The "lean" range is excellent for healthy and longevity.

The guy running the booth said that to achieve a ďleanĒ body fat percentage I would need to lose twenty pounds or gain more lean muscle mass. I canít imagine losing twenty more pounds! It sounds so daunting. I mean, Iíve already lost over 90! Isnít that enough? =)

They did give me an estimated RMR (resting metabolic rate) for my body fat percentage. So my body at rest should burn about 1,300 calories a day. If I have a sedentary day Iím burning about 1,650. Low activity- 2,000 calories. Moderately active- about 2,300 and very active- about 2750.

I can raise my RMR by replacing some of my fat with muscle. Just more proof that I need to be strength training with consistency!

Some new, cute workout clothes should inspire me. I definitely donít usually show up to the gym like this:



But I needed to be able to slide out of my clothes quickly for the test. I took out all of my jewelry and left it at home, so that wasnít an issue.

The rest of my day was pretty uneventful. Although it was really nice out! So when we were done at the gym, my husband and I came home and ate a snack. Grapes and almonds for me! Although I only remembered to snap the grapes.



But you know what almonds look like!

    emoticon I would be so scared to know what my ture body fat % is...but it would be great motivation! Great job being in the lean range and now you have a goal to work towards!!

    good for you for getting your body fat tested. it is true, strength training will not only make you healthier but you will look thinner as well and may even find that your clothing becomes bigger on you.
