I found an interesting quote today on my friend's office wall.
"One of the main causes of failure is giving up what you want most for what you want now."
Jessie Ahroni
I didn't know who Jessie Ahroni was so I googled her. She is one of the foremost authorities on laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding. Interesting.
Anyway, the quote made me think. What do I want the most? To live a healthy lifestyle so that I can live a long and healthy life with my family and friends. What has sabotaged the gaining of what I want most? My desire to eat chocolate nonstop, have that 1000 calorie dessert, drink to excess, not maintain a healthy weight, sit on the couch or stay in bed instead of making the effort to exercise...all things that I wanted to have or do at the moment without considering what I wanted most.
The quote really hit home. I can make healthier decisions by keeping what I want most uppermost in my mind. If chocolate causes cravings, then get rid of chocolate around the house. If there's a decadent dessert at the table, don't have any or simply take one or two bites. It's OK to stay on the couch or in bed if I'm sick with something affecting my chest, but otherwise...NO EXCUSES! Go out and burn some calories!! All of this will lead to me getting to a healthy weight and a healthier lifestyle.
