Idk about this diet...

Ok, so I posted some things on Facebook about how I'm going to get back to diet and exercise, etc. An old high school friend messaged me about a diet she had gone on in which she lost 50 lbs. in about 3-4 months. I had noticed her pictures before in which she had lost a lot of weight and noticed how good she looked. I never asked her how she did it, I just assumed it was diet and exercise.

Anyway, back to the diet. She tells me she went to a doctor who does a special diet in which you also have to take a hunger suppressant. I'm no fan of quickie diets or taking pills and such. But out of curiosity I told her to go ahead and give me the phone number and address. I asked her what the diet consisted of and she said the doctor puts you on a 1200 calorie diet. The first month you eat nothing but fruits and veggies. The next month you are allowed to add in some carbs. He also requires you to walk 2 miles everyday.

Hmm, sounds a bit crazy to me. Not so much the calorie intake restriction because mine (according to SP) should be between 1200-1550 calories. But just the part about eating nothing but fruits and veggies! I need my carbs, which is probably why I am where I am now. lol That right there turned me off. I know what I can and can't do and I already know I won't be able to eat only fruits and veggies for a month. A co-worker of mine went on a three day fruit and veggie body cleansing thing and I said "no thanks" to that.

I'm still thinking about this. I'm not sure if this would even be something good to do or not.

    Well I think you SHOULD do this diet...but only part of it....

The only part of this diet you should do is the 2 mile walk each day! :) I think that'll help anyone. Other than that, there's no way someone can survive healthfully on fruits and veggies.

    Thanks, ladies. I already leave whites out of my meals, whether watching my weight or not. I'm already used to eating wheat and whole grains.

I don't think I'll be trying this diet. I'm not a big fan of diets anyway. I already lost 30 lbs. with SP last year (even though I gained 20 back). So I know I can do this again!

And besides, like I said, I can't not have carbs. That's just crazy. I'm not a emoticon . lol

    I friend of mine did this same type of diet after 3 weeks she got weak and had a constant headache so she added the starchy carbs back in and felt better.She did lose like 18lbs in the 3 weeks but gained half back within a week.You can eat anything in moderation.

    First rule: diets don't work because they are about denying you certain foods. Healthy eating plans work because they allow you to have nutritious foods from EVERY food group.

Second rule: any diet that tells you that you can't have carbs is bad.

Your brain DEPENDS on carbs to run well and be efficient. You don't want brain-drain, do you?

Third - there are carbohydrates in fruits and veggies. What this doc is doing is limiting your starchy carbs like potatoes, whole grains, and bread.

While limiting starches can help with weight loss, you do need SOME of those things to be healthy. So any "diet" that tells you no is not a healthy eating plan.

I would strongly encourage you NOT to do this. I would encourage you to eat what you know is healthy for you, eat your starchy carbs in moderation, and not follow any crazy "diet".

Fact is, whole grains like whole wheat bread, oatmeal, shredded wheat help you LOSE weight when eaten in the correct portions.

Just cut your big WHITES. White pasta, white rice, white flour.

You will do fine without the pills and restrictions on food.

One last thing - your friend may have lost a lot of weight on this "diet", but once she starts eating starchy carbs again and eating more than 1200 calories a day, she may gain most of it back because she has not learned how to eat nutritiously. She's just learned how to restrict her food to achieve weight loss in that particular way. It's not sustainable.
