Paper or Plastic?

Tuesday, March 02, 2010

NEITHER! Pledge to bring reusable bags to the grocery store (or any store). Make it a habit!

Check out these tidbits:
100 billion: The number of plastic shopping bags used annually in the US
1000: The number of plastic bags a high quality reusable bag has the potential to eliminate in its lifetime!
14 million trees are used to make paper bags in one year!
12 million barrels of oil is used to make plastic bags in one year!
Plastic bag waste can last up to 1000 years!
(source: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18

Plastic bags cause over 100,000 sea turtle and other marine animal deaths every year when animals mistake them for food.

I purchased some reuable bags at our Old Navy and use them all the time. Did you know if you use a Target reusabel bag they deduct 5 cent off your bill, a small savings but it can eveentually add up.

Great advice! I take a plastic fold down crate with me each and every time I go to Aldi's. Over the past couple years of using it, this has saved me countless paper or plastic bags. I just leave it in he car and use it as needed for everything.

Even though I don't remember it everytime I am tryining. I take my reusable bags with me when I go to the store. The only thing is when I take them in the house I forget to put them back in the vehicle.
Great reminder.
