A holistic approach to health

Tuesday, March 02, 2010

It is my belief that human beings are multi-dimensional. Physical, mental and spititual components combine tho create each unique individual. The quality of our lives is determined by creating a balance among them. What has been referred to as the "mind-body connection" is a strong one.

Initially, as I began to take my first faltering steps towards living healthier, my focus was entirely on nutrition and exercise. Somewhere I lost my emotional and spiritual self-putting them on hold for "someday".

That was when I first found Spark People. I am absolutely thrilled to have stumbled across a nutrional site which empahsizes the whole person. It has revived my fundamental belief system-often in surprising ways.

The crss-cross effect manifests itself more clearly each day. Hind sight is twenty-twenty. Four years later, (approaching five) it is evident taht as my nutrion and exercise habits improved the quality of my health in other areas were being altered. The overall quality of my life improved, and continues to do so each day.

Chapter three really hit home for me. It helped to clarify what I really want my life to be. As I work on creating a visual collage as recommeded it is becoming clear that my goals overlap. They are so interwoven that it is often very difficult for me to separate them. Each component works with the others. This has been a challenge for me, but one that has benifitted me greatly , and will continue to do so.

My "Someday" is now.

A holistic lifestyle is important to overall health. When I was 38 fibromyalgia dominated my body. Of course, that diagnosis wasn't often given at that time. Less was known about it then. It so happened I had a book on holistic living, and used it as a guideline for feeling better. In my case, a chiropractor used therapeutic touch and helped me, too. following a program (LIFESTYLE) of body. mind spirit self care and nurturing, I became mostly free of symptoms. What a blessing! Walking, stretching, eating healthier, meditation, etc. made my life richer, too. Later the diagnosis helped explain what I was working on, but the key was holistic living. The process continues!
Color me grateful!
