"In Dec 2009, I travelled to Buenos Aires where I spent 6 days exploring before boarding a cruise around Cape Horn ending in Valparaiso, Chile. There were 7 ports of call including the Falklands. I spent a few days in Valparaiso and Vina del Mar before taking a bus over the Andes to spend Christmas in Mendoza, Argentina. Then back over the Andes again to Santiago for a couple of days before flying home. I wasn't ready to come home."
That was from my other information on my Sparkpage. Hearing of the 8.8 earthquake yesterday morning, I could only send heartfelt wishes for the people of Chile and the many people I met and got to know on my brief visit.
At first the reports said the severity of damage was not as severe as Haiti although the rate on the richter scale was exponentially greater. Now, it is clearer as more reports and photos are posted of the devastation in Conception not only from the quake itself but also from the resulting tidal wave. In the earthquake area, over 1.5 milion people are reported as homeless and 700 dead although I am sure that will climb as well. I do not know what more to say.
