Saturday - Does Rocking in a Chair Burn Calories?

Saturday, February 27, 2010

I started today with a walk around the block - for me a block is .84 miles, because I am in a subdivision with a lot of culdesacs and few roads that connect to other roads. I will need to go walk again to be sure I get in at least a mile and at least 30 minutes of cardio-type exercise. Does Rocking in a Chair burn calories? I know cleaning house does, so that's my focus this morning.

I love your posts, and I too rack up steps shopping in Walmart, or in Fred Meyers. It is not aerobic, but it is most definitely exercising. Besides the walk around the block, rocking in my chair was about it for exercise on Saturday.

Loved ur blog! I personally have an issue with grocery shopping not being considered exercise.

I've been known to put close to two miles worth of steps on my pedometer during a trip to WalMart not counting all the reaching and hefting of merchandise in and out of the cart.

I looked online and RockingChairTherapy.com suggests rocking as a way to lose post baby weight because, according to "Mothering" magazine, it burns 150 calories an hour.

It would definitely have to be considered the 'anti-cardio' of exercises though. What's more relaxing than rocking away the evening with a good book?

You go girl!! Set those goals. I sure hope rocking in a chair is counted as exercise! I rock all day long in my job working in an infant room. Rock, crawl, sway the hips is it all exercise? emoticon
