Portion Shocker!

Thursday, February 25, 2010

You would think that I have been doing this long enough that things wouldn't surprise me. And yet, they still do!

So today I indulged in a bit of light ice cream. I'm trying to get away from it, but my magic bullet blade was completely dirty. I didn't feel like dealing with it, so I thought "I'll just have some ice cream instead of a fruit smoothie tonight." Instead of using a 1/2 cup and slightly overfilling it like I usually do to get 3/4 cup's worth, I grabbed the actual 3/4 cup and put it on my scale. I measured out 93 grams of ice cream (supposedly what 3/4 cup should be) and it was barely 2/3 of the way full! That's a big difference!

Ever since I got my cool new scale that measures in ounces AND grams I have been using it constantly. So I'm glad I thought to try it out with the ice cream, but I think it has just convinced me even more that I need to eat less ice cream! The smoothies I have been making taste fantastic, I just need to buy another blender because I think I have really overused my magic bullet. I'm on my second one just because I use it so often! It doesn't quite work the way it used to.

The smoothie I made last night was GOOD too! I do buy some frozen fruit, but I also freeze some fresh fruit.

I started with 71 grams of frozen grapes and 85 grams of frozen banana.

Then I added the vanilla Chobani.

I also added a 1/4 cup of water and blended it together until smooth.

So good!! I like adding bananas to smoothies because they not only add a great taste, but they help with creating a great texture. No little ice chunks for this girl!

What kind of blender do you have? Would you recommend it for smoothie making purposes?

Oh, and have you had any portion shockers lately?

I have it as a dessert, so my tummy is already full. So I'm not sure how filling it would be for a snack, but if anyone tries it, let me know!

That looks yummy. And I've never considered grapes in a smoothie myself!
Never made one either actually...had some, didn't make them...

But that's actually a really great point to bring up about icecream and smoothies. Cause smoothies are delicious. O_O

Excellent thanks for the insight. When I get that sweet tooth for ice cream I just grab a Popcicle light pop, only 15 calories and no fat, no carbs... but I sure do miss the ice I think I'll try a smoothie. emoticon

YUM!! I love making smoothies but have never thought about grapes! GREAT idea!!!

My blender is a Bosch and I LOOOOVE it!!! It can tackle any frozen fruit easily- even the huge frozen strawberries.
