So today I did something that I hope with make a difference in someone's life. Even if I just touched one person, it was worth it!

I am a college student and I needed a topic for a paper I was writing in my business class...I know it is not the most conventional "business" but I choose Sparkpeople. I discussed this with my teacher a few weeks back and he agreed to let me do this particular topic. I was stoked!

Now being somewhat of a procrastinator when it comes to schoolwork, I put it off until the end of last week (it was due tonight 2.23.10) even though I have known about it for weeks :)

-I started my research.
-I outlined it all.
-I wrote my paper.
-I printed it out.
-I then woke up today and remembered that I have to present my topic to the class
---Whoops! Where have I been???
So I put together a brief powerpoint and figured I would let my passion for SP take over the rest...

I was the 5th person to present. We had to do a minimum of 5 minutes...I think when I finished I had talked for 10-15 minutes!

I asked if anyone had heard of and no one had (except my 2 friends who are on here as well!). So I started my presentation and talked about the history of SP, the history of Chris Downie, how the company came about, what the website was, etc. I even pulled up my start page and showed them around! I read my status to them as well :) and my teacher got a kick out of it! It reads "TCRADY11 wrote an 8 page paper about SP...I hope the teacher likes it as much as I do!!" It was great!

When I was talking about SP and all the great assets it brings to its members, I had so much to say! I wanted to tell them EVERY little thing about the site. I had so much passion built up that I just wanted to keep talking and talking about it but realized that others still had to present so I talked about my analysis and then wrapped things up.

But I realized something tonight when I was presenting...I may want to do something with my life that has to either do with:

a) public speaking
b) motivating others
c) certified personal trainer/coach
d) helping others
e) all of the above rolled into one??

I know I am going to school for business administration but those other areas interest me and I have passion for them as well! It was such an experience to have all these feelings running thru me when I was up there talking about Sparkpeople.

I do not know where life will take me or what opportunities will arise but I will be on the lookout to make things happen.
*I want to help others.
**I want to "spark" them.
***I want to help them help themselves.

The end emoticon

I am so sorry that I did not post my grade before this was the featured post BUT I got an A on my paper and a perfect score on my presentation!!! He said that my enthusiasm for my topic topped it all off! :)

Even if I would not have gotten 2 A's, I would still have been excited just for the fact of giving the presentation!

Keep Sparkling

I LOVED reading this!!! Reminds me of myself, I have been trying to change myself for the past few years at first just physically but since joining spark people and returning to college I am taking the wellness path trying to change me to be a better person overall. Like you I have found something I love, and am contimplating a major change from elementary education to health sciences with a teaching certificate so that I can teach health and wellness.
Good Luck!!

I have a MBA, work for the public and voulnteer. You can easily apply knowledge learned in business school to the nonprofit world and in helping others. Think out of the box and don't accept other people's limitations. You define what your degree will be used for.

That is so cool! You accomplished a lot of things at once. You passed along good information and you made your own commitment out loud to a group of people. And you got an A. What is better than that?

Sorry I'm slow on responding to this outstanding blog.

Have you considered becoming a Life Coach Motivational Speaker?

I know several people who do that, very successfully. It appears that would be right up your alley! Keep up the enthusiasm!

Great job! Like you said even if you touched 1 person you have made a huge difference. I also have been trying to "Spark" people on this subject. Not in a classroom or for a school project but just because I know a lot of people that could benefit from something like Sparkpeople. I spread the word to everyone I know at work, friends, family, etc. Great job on the paper and the presentation! That is so awesome that you have that much enthusiasm about Sparkpeople! You would be a great public speaker and trainer I am sure. Keep Sparking!

I loved the motivation that you have for Spark just as I do. Go for the goals that you want to reach. I am in the same boat I want to help people and I am about to change my major from Nutriton to Public Health. So that I can help others with the right things to eat, as well how to stay healthy.

That's fantastic! Its always more fun to choose a topic you're passionate about for your papers/projects instead of writing some dry paper on a topic your professor is interested in, but you don't really care for. Glad you were so successful with this project! And its really cool that it has shown you a new road you may want to go down for your career and your future.
