Get Your Exercise On!

Monday, February 22, 2010

So Aubrey and I are taking a little bit of a break in trying new recipes. Weíre just eating some of the usual suspects lately. Our cleaned up recipes and a few unclean ones as we use up some of our old food.

My favorite quick snack recently has been almonds. If it is not quite mealtime yet, but I feel the munchies coming on I find that about 50 calories worth of almonds hits the spot. (about 8.5 grams worth)

What I have been concentrating on is being more consistent with my exercise. Iím actually really good about getting my cardio in. I love my heart rate monitor telling me all of the calories I am burning. But for some reason I just donít get the same happy feelings from strength training.

Come on, you can do it! Five more push-ups!

I mostly work out at the gym, but sometimes even leaving the house feels like too much work. During these times, I pop in one of my workout videos. Lately, my exercise of choice has been kickboxing. I donít have a big space to work out in and I have to skip the jumps that some of them include, but it usually leaves me feeling pretty strong. One day when we can afford a house I can finally do everything they do without having to worry about angering downstairs neighbors!!

I had Aubrey take some pictures of me while exercising and I learned two things. I need to work on my inner thighs and my arms! But seriously, I learned that I canít stand photos of myself if I am not properly posed with my ďgood sideĒ to the camera. I mean, I knew I wasnít 100% satisfied with every part of my body, but I had no clue how vain I was! I immediately deleted a couple of them because they were just BAD!

But here we go. Here's me getting into kickboxing mode!

Hi-yah!

Are we done squatting yet??

But you know what Iím really guilty of? Not stretching enough! I always feel so gross after working out that I want to just skip straight to the shower! After getting back from the gym though I actually took the time to do a few stretches since I knew I wanted a couple of pictures. I did way more stretching than I ever do!

Yeah! I have this balance thing down.

This actually felt really good. Donít mind my bright red face!

But not as good as this feels!

Although I have been here for over three years I still feel like I have so much more to learn!

What do you like to do for cardio? Do you strength train?

You look so fantastic!!! I have been doing mostly cardio lately (kicboxing is my fave). I've neglected the strength training a bit since I was pregnant and then after I had the baby but I'm slowly getting back into it. I enjoy it the most in a class at the gym. Too boring if left to my own devices. :)

What a great post! I feel the same way, sometimes its just hard to get in the car and go. BUT If I don't go, then my whole days feels rotten and a waste, not up to its potential. I think you look absolutely amazing! Good Job! I admire you! emoticon

I have a much harder time doing the exercises at home then I do at the gym. I don't really know why though.

I find it pretty easy to do either cardio or strength training. I normally go to the gym and do the treadmill. I struggle with stretching. I need to invest in some kickboxing dvds. I love the kickboxing dvd I have now.

I find it so easy to do cardio...and haven't yet gotten back into the swing of strength training. My bad. I really need to, too. I do spinning classes (studio cycling), elliptical, jogging, gardening, walking, hiking, biking....

So need to get that cardio in. Kickboxing sounds like a great workout.

Keep on keepin' on....
