Well, I signed up for a marathon training clinic. The first class was last night and it sounds like it will be incredibly helpful! They have different speakers every Tuesday, and every Saturday morning they go for a group long run. Next week, for example, a podiatrist is coming in to talk about shoes, and he will take a look at our feet, stance, and gait, and at the wear patterns of our shoes to tell us if we are in the right running shoe. They are going to have classes on nutrition, stretching, etc., and in one of the classes they're arranging for local runners who have completed our goal races to come in and talk to us about the race. We told the instructor our goal race and she will give us a training plan in a couple of days that's tailored to our race date. And then at the end we get a plaque saying we did the class and it will list our race and finish time. So I'm pretty pumped!
So although I've been training for a couple of months on my own, I'm going to call this Half-Marathon Training Week 1. I'll try to post at least once a week to say how it's going, and I'll share any helpful or important things I learn at the class. I'm excited to have this class to hold me accountable, and maybe I'll even meet some running buddies. Wish me luck!
