Bummer

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

During all the snow that we had, I fell as I was walking. I didn't think much about it, because I really didn't go down that hard. This weekend, while we were down in Gettysburg, we did a lot of walking, and by Sat night, my ankle started to really bother me. It hurts when I put my shoe on and if I move it the wrong way. So my hubby told me to get it checked out on Monday. So Monday, I called the dr, made an appointment and went into see him. Of course he sent me for x-rays. Luckily there is no fracture, which is what he was afraid of, seeing that it took 4 days for the pain to start. So it is just a strain, but until it heals, it is going to bother me. I have not exercised since Sunday, Monday, I was pretty much on my feet all day, doing laundry and grocery shopping, and today, instead of doing housework, I sat with my foot propped up reading.

I am really bummed because today is the first day since the beginning of the year that I did not get up and get moving. I don't want to fall back into the rut I was in last year, where I went for days without exercising. But I know that I have to give my ankle a chance to heal, so I will take it easy for a couple of days. Hopefully by the weekend, it will be feeling better, and I will be able to get back at it.

Take the time to heal your ankle and listen to the doctor. I had a bad sprain once so I know how you feel. I was suppose to be on crutches but after a day I gave them up. You'll be back up before you know it...Take care... emoticon

I don't suppose you have access to an indoor pool.......short of that, there are atons of things you can do while sitting to at least get some strength training in. If you do it without the weights, you might be able to get your heart rate up enough for SOME cardio. I have been fortunate to not have any injuries that keep me tied down. That was one of the main reasons I contunue with this journey: to increase my flexibility and strength so I DON'T fall.

I know you too well by this point -- I am totally and completely confident you will not regress. Ice, elevate, or do whatever the dr. said to do because when the time comes, you'll be cranking out those exercise minutes like before!!

Oh too bad. I pray you heal quickly and completely. Have you thought about chair exercise? Even working just your upper body will be good. I teach an exercise class called Strong Women. All the movements are done either sitting, or standing holding on to a chair. The website has a virtual trainer if you're interested.

Take care and heal well.
