Even More Pedometer Obsession

Saturday, February 13, 2010

I've come to the realization that my pedometer is like a pet that I need to walk every day. So today, I grabbed my girls and we went to the mall to take my pedometer for a walk (and they thought it was to take them shopping! LOL).

Anyway, I realized that I am going to treat my pedometer like a pet and walk it as much as it needs.

Hmmm. I guess I'll need to name it now. Any ideas??

In seriousness, it kind of bothers me that many people are saying that it takes 10,000 steps to lose weight. So much research has proven that 10,000 steps are needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle but it takes 12,000 steps to lose weight... I'm striving for the 12,000. If I'm going to err, at least I'll get more steps in.

10,000 steps is pretty easy for me to get to even without much activity. I just bought a Sportline pedometer at Target for $23 and it fits in your pocket. It tells the steps, miles and calories burned based upon your weight and step lenght. I think its pretty accurate. I've decided to name mine Sped.

I love this idea. I agree about 10000 being a minimum -- I usually aim for more, but some days 10000 is a lot to accomplish. There are a lot of days I wouldn't step at all if I wasn't aiming for 10000. I've done more than 10000/day for 17 days now! I've lost 2 pounds since starting -- I'd say that's progress. 13 more days and my reward is a nicer pedometer. Maybe I'll name that one.

I love it! I don't have any brilliant ideas for a name but the idea of naming it is really cute.

How about Baby? C'mon Baby, time for a walk! No? Yeah, I'm no good at stuff like that. I agree, 12000 steps is a good goal. Better to err on the side of caution!

Thanks to you, I now find myself walking upstairs for no reason, then walking back down, smiling and taking a peak at the pedometer. LOL. It is crazy!! I may just name mine something simple. Like Bob. or Charlie. LOL.

Hey; thanks for the info. I didn't know about the 12,000. Of course I have a ways to go to even get to the 10K.

Names: Pokey Not, Little Dogie (as in "Get Along....), Moped, Pedigirl, PawPed..........

I'm sure you will come up with something MUCH cuter!

How about naming it Duke. Like the Clampett's dog in Beverly Hillbillies. It was a loyal dog.

I can't seem to find a pedometer that works right. I've gone thru 4 different ones so far. They are all to sensitive because I fidget all the time.

I agree 10,000 steps a day should be minimum with a goal to increase.
