I got to school and went to sign in at the office. I headed back to my classroom - right behind the office, a crowd of kids were standing around with their cell phone cameras aimed at the stairs, where a series of boys tried sliding down the concrete steps while standing on a hard plastic flat object.
Yup, they were all filming students doing stupid things, hoping to submit it to "America's Funniest Home Videos."
I suggested a helmet, to protect their heads. One boy did put on two backpacks, one on the front and one on the back, just in case.
The only kid who made it down most of the steps rode the flat object sitting down. The others managed a few steps, started to tip over, jumped off and down the rest of the stairs. (There are probably 10 steps on this flight.)
Fortunately no one injured themselves. I thought about stepping in, calling someone - but the boys all seemed pretty agile and being as cautious as a 13-14 yr old boy can be.
It was just one of those moments when you wonder about the stupid phase kids go through - these kids were sure in the middle of it!
