Good News from DD and SIL

Tuesday, February 09, 2010

Talked with my DD yesterday and she and her DH were doing well even though they were snowed in. They found out that the insurance will most likely cover the cost of replacing their barn (collapsed under 34" of snow). So the arguements with the insurance company will begin.

They attempted to shovel out but their driveway is way too long and the snow too deep. So they jumped on their ponies bareback (warmer that way) and headed out in search of a farmer with a tractor and front-end loader. The farmer who dug them out last time would have been happy to clear their driveway again ...e except that his tractor was broken. So more wondering and riding down the ro rural roads they live on. They found another farmer who was willing to come and help out. Who could say no to such a cute pair riding up on their ponies anyway. LOL So hopefully that happened today. They plan on parking their Jeep at the end of the driveway this time.... just like their old foggie parents (in law) do. LOL

Just in time to get ready for the next round of snow. I am happy that they are not in the 34" prediction area this time... more like 8-12". So I will be hoping and praying that he rest of the barn holds up to the added weight. Who knows with the 40 mph winds also predicted, maybe the snow will blow off in some areas.

As for me, we are prepared as much as possible for whatever comes our way. Had PT on my shoulder today and DH is feeling better (cold).

Thanks it from Snowmageden.

Yhat was so cool and clever to ride their ponies. I had a wonderful mental picture. How romantic, too.

Good to hear the insurance is coming to see the barn! I really hope the next storm isn't too bad. I am sure everyone has cabin fever by this point of being home so much.

Glad the horses and DD's pony are good. We had a crew on New Year's Day shoveling snow off our roof after we had done what we could with a roof rake. We have had nothing but snow and more snow since our whopper on Christmas Eve. We already had 3 snow days and then in January we had 3 more snow days, so all schools are making it up. Glad you had power as getting on the computer really helped the isolation. Sharing stories is one way of uniting in this horrific winter! emoticon

Glad everyone is doing as well as can be expected. It missed us again. I can't believe our luck will hold out much longer. Go get that cat off the fence before the next snow or you'll never find it! emoticon

Hopefully things will go smoothly with the insurance.

When we moved, the inspector thought there might be hail damage on our roof. So the insurance paid for a new roof no questions asked! It was a huge relief.

I love the image of your daughter & SIL riding around on their ponies, bareback in the snow. I'm sure the reality wasn't so fun, but it's still a great image!

You wrote: pinies instead of ponies in your blog and I wondered what that was. I thought it was a breed of horse. LOL I use spell check every blog I do. I still make mistakes!

Hang tough hon, spring will be gorgeous this year.

We lucked out and didn't get as much as they said.

I loved hearing about riding the horses in the snow. We may all need to resort to this before the winter is over. LOL.

That's great news on all fronts. Tell them to document the entire process getting names of people they talked to at the insurance company, when, what was said etc. I worked at one, trust me, they'll do anything to not have to pay if they think the customer isn't well informed and on top of things.

Yes, that is some good news. We must be in the same snow storm as we're getting it here in Michigan too! Hoping for a snow day from school tomorrow.
