Rest Days are Important

Monday, February 08, 2010

I've been working out harder then usual, trying to get comfortable with the starting point of my half marathon training plan. I've been so tired that after my weekend work outs I don't feel like doing much else. I had been sore for the past couple of weeks.

I had been working through my rest days. You know how you read those articles in Runner's World and they work out every day? So I decided I should be doing more.

Well I finally took a rest day and boy do I feel great! I feel so refreshed and my legs actually feel happy. Plus I'm already looking forward to tomorrow's run.

I guess I can't compare myself to what others are doing. My rest days are important and I need to keep taking them.

You should join the Jeff Galloway Training for any length of race team...It's a very supportive team with lots of experienced runners...

Jeff Galloway advocates a run/walk method and at first I wasn't sure what to think about it because when I was training for my half marathon last fall I knew I could do the whole thing without walking...but then I did some reading about his methods and I tried them out...

You can also find Galloway training programs online and you can use his "magic mile predictor" to find out your predicted time and training time as well.

My overall time is better and I feel better when I do run/walk intervals...When I did my half marathon...I walked through every water station which was about every 9 minutes...I did fine...but I probably should have walked twice as often...

As of now plan on doing 4 to 1 intervals in the Cellcom race.

We will definitely need to meet somewhere before race time...

    Happy Training...

I know how important rest days are. Sometimes I find it hard to stay away so I've been trying out more restful exercise (yoga, for example) on my rest days. That's worked out really well.

Half Marathon! Good for you. Good luck with your training!
