Where did it go?

Monday, February 08, 2010

The scale hasn't moved since January 19. It's the same number no matter when I check. I'd think it's the scale but I have two scales and the other one is only 2/10 pound different. I've been through this a start-and-stop routine a couple of times now so I'm learning patience and the idea of shaking up my daily rituals to confuse my body. Irritating, nonetheless.

I've been checking my measurements; no change.

So what's the deal? My size 16 jeans that I just bought a couple of weeks ago are already loose. Today I am wearing a sweater that I bought 12 years ago on a trip to Scotland. I paid big money for this sweater and it's been a constant reminder of where I was 12 years ago and where I was 8 months ago. It looks good and I'm happy today wearing it.

So how does this work that nothing has officially changed and while my brain may know that, my body doesn't? If I haven't lost any weight, where did it go?

WHO CARES?? I'm looking good! emoticon

Thanks everyone for keeping me going; I'll be posting a weight loss soon, I know it!!

Hey, I don't know how I missed your blog! Sometimes, I measure myself and the tape is not in the same place (around me) as the last time. Now, I have my husband help me so I am sure to do it more consistently that way.

You know you're doing this right! HANG ON! You told ME to hang on, and now, it's your turn! emoticon

Love, your emoticon Lori

You're body is shifting and adjusting to the good things you're doing for it; and they don't always show on the scale right away. You're right, the scale will catch up. Isn't it GREAT getting back into clothes you once "grew out" of? That's reward and motivation and just plain make-you-smile proud all at once. Whoo Hooo!

You are doing so great! It's wonderful to fit back into your dream clothes from the past! Don't worry....the scale will move again in the right direction. You've been working hard, my friend, and it will all pay off.

They keep telling me that the scale is NOT always right and that the clothes will tell the tale. You're proving it! GREAT JOB! Love ya, Dawn emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Don't argue with your clothes! Something has changed, like your body. It is more toned and the muscles are tighter than they were. Keep it up!

You have been doing such a great job...your body just needs some time to catch up? LOL. I have no doubts you will stick with it and the pounds will once again start falling off. emoticon

Actually, your fat layer is shrinking and your muscle tissue is expanding. Fat doesn't turn into mucsle, one just gets smaller and the other gets leaner...you'll see it eventually - don't give up!

I often say that since I don't walk around with a scale under my feet or my weight tattooed on my forehead I am not too concerned about what the scale says... that's what I say but I also have issues when the scale doesn't reflect the work I know I am doing. If you are feeling better, building endurance, gaining strength, getting healthier those are all much more important indicators and you should be congratulated for your commitment to a better you so...

You are doing a fabulous job and have a winning attitude. I am having a similar battle with the scale and have decided to put the scale away for a while. I am going to measure and continue to track my nutrition and fitness. My son reminded me this weekend that I am getting the results I desire, my body is getting smaller, my health is sooo much better. Then he asked me, would you rather have a small number on the scale that only you can see or the other benefits of your lifestyle change that every one can see the results of your efforts. Duh! How do our kids end up wiser than we are? Love that boy!

Good attitude, hun. Measurements are a MUCH better indicator, and I'm glad you're not too worried about it.

The attitude, exercise, and diet that you follow... It'll start dropping again. Don't get hung up on the numbers. You did so incredibly well on the 10 week challenge that your body probably just needs a bit to catch up to your spirit!! How exciting to be wearing that special sweater from a great trip. And the jeans are loose? Woohoo. You are such a wonderful inspiration for me, Kathi!!

Hey, I'm with you, sister! I had a shock this morning, and wish I hadn't looked! Official weigh in is Thursday, so I'll not look until then! Maybe it's good I peeked, because now, well, I'm shifting to high gear! emoticon

(You may need to msg me some tissues Thursday! emoticon )

Interesting problem to have, pants getting loose but scale not going down. I don't know. Does your scale require a battery? Have you changed it lately?

The scale cannot reflect the magic happening inside of your body. Your metabolism has become more efficient at burning calories; your muscles have expanded and strengthened while your fat is shrinking. You might not think you've lost more inches, but if your clothes are loose and if you're fitting into things you couldn't before, then you must be losing inches or fractions of inches. But because you're gaining muscle, perhaps the measurements don't reflect the whole story.

Just remember that you have accomplished A GREAT DEAL! And also remember that you are staying true to this commitment you've made to yourself no matter what... no matter what the numbers might say... because you are creating an improved you, a more dynamic you, a more fulfilling life...

You are doing great, my friend! Keep shining brightly and reach for the sparks!!!

Debbie
