The Ins & Outs Of Making A Healthy Smoothie-Blog 2

Saturday, February 06, 2010

So my dear Spark friend TRAVELNISTA offered me a suggestion to getting in my f/v each day: Make a smoothie with banana, mango and spinach. Sure, no problem. You won't taste the spinach she promises. So without hesitation I head for the kitchen. Emma has been saying she's hungry for a bit now anyway.

I gather my ingredients. Since I do not have mango I add a whole banana, frozen strawberries & peaches and a few handfuls of spinach. I also add some milk for my liquid base. I figure it's a safer bet than using the apple juice. I add all my ingredients into the blender. Then after a bit I notice the spinach needs to be stirred. So I take out my spoon and decide I'll just stir it up a bit-no, I didn't turn off the blender to do this.
So this is what my spoon looks like now...

Good thing I wasn't really attached to that spoon emoticon

After checking through the smoothie mixture for spoon pieces, this is what the finished product looks like:

This is what my sweet child looks like consuming said product:

You can see the smile in her eyes as she drinks it!

Please note the greenish mustache she is sporting!
After drinking it she says, "Mommy you made a GREAT smoothie!" emoticon I just love my daughter!

Fresh and frozen fruit: $2
Milk: $.50
Spinach: $1

Having my heart melt? PRICELESS

Thanks TRAVELNISTA!

I did that with a spoon one time. My spoon was wooden though so my smoothie had splinters in it. LOL

I'm one of the few people who don't care for smoothies. They taste okay but I like to chew my food. I do drink a chocolate protein drink in the summer thats like a milk shake. Mmmmm, now that I love to drink!

I'm glad you made the smoothie and that you and your baby like it. Now you can get all those fruits and veggies in... I used to love to experiment with my smoothies. I would use either spinach or kale for the leafy greens and then stick in whatever fruits I had. I don't think there's a way to mess up a smoothie unless you accidentally put in too many greens. emoticon

She is just WAY too cute! I love smoothies too but I do find if I eat TOO many fruits, I gain weight very quickly. I've learned to eat an apple or a small fruit salad and leave it at that. I eat my spinich in my lunch sandwiches. It adds a lot of crunch if it's nice and fresh.

So how many calories was the spoon? I don't recall that in my recipe. emoticon I don't add any milk, yogurt, or apple juice to it. You can just add maybe a 1/4 cup of good old H20

I can't wait till you make the banana, pineapple, spinach smoothie and see how Emma likes it. I bet that will be her favorite. I will add the pineapple juice to that one. emoticon emoticon
