Active people already know this

Friday, February 05, 2010

I had lunch with my most active friend today. She has climbed Mt McKinley (a few times), rock climbs, jogs 3 times a week, snowboards, etc etc. She has always been like this.

I was telling her about my small efforts towards fitness, and she was completely on board, saying, "That's the way it's got to be. If you try to start too fast, you'll never be able to do it. The way you're doing it now will just keep building up and you won't have a problem with it"

Maybe this is something those thin, active people have always known and we couch potatoes just didn't get the memo. Up until just recently I didn't believe the 10 minute workout would work.

Look at me now! This morning I did one of Leslie's WATP DVD's. About three weeks ago I could only get to the half mile point. Today I finished the mile without the weights. Maybe soon I'll be able to do the mile with the weights. Before Spark People, I wouldn't have given myself credit for getting halfway through. Now, I log the minutes and feel proud that I did it.

Every little moment is so important. Your friend and spark is right, buidling up slowly really helps make things a habit.

That is just awesome! I guess it is like the saying "every penny counts" so does every minute. If you stop and think we are always saying how much little things mean or how little things add up quick... I guess it is just how you want to apply it!

Anyway - GREAT JOB!!!!

You can do it! I amaze myself everyday that I go to workout and realize that I can push just a little harder this time. Keep pushing! The results will be worth it! emoticon emoticon

That is awesome!!! I started the same way...with Leslie's one mile and couldn't get through it...but that didn't stop me from trying. Now I can do all of her dvds...from one mile to the five milers. You will so enjoy seeing yourself get stronger and stronger. Keep it up! Great job!

I always had this all or nothing mentality that caused me to fail, long term, in the past. Now, I realize it is about starting out small and letting it gain momentum. Now, you got the memo!! WAY TO GO!!!

That is absolutely the way to go! In the past I used to get discouraged I couldn't do something, or couldn't do it very long so I would just quit, figuring I'm just not an athlete. But once you learn this valuable lesson and give yourself permission to ease into it your body will reward you with it's amazing capability to adapt and overcome. You are on the right path!!! Great job!
