Don't Bring Negative to My Door!!!

Friday, February 05, 2010

I can honestly say that I have developed a much more positive, can-do attitude since joining SparkPeople. Learning to focus on the possibilities in every situation, instead of the problems is one of the things that appreciate most about this journey so far.

That change in thinking has also prompted me to change my environment... I find myself disassociating deom some people. They are the infamous toxic thinkers: the ones who always have an excuse for why they can't change, or a reason why the next person will be unsuccessful, or are just pessimistic about life in general.

On the flip side, letting those people go has left room for new ones! I've met (in person and virtually) some amazing new people in the past few months. People who've run marathon(s), completed triatholons and iron (wo)man competitions, and those who are training for those events. I have met people who have lost 20, 50, 100+ pounds, and those who've had the courage to start the process and keep going even when the going gets tough.

Because of the amazing new people that I've met (many of them right here on SparkPeople) I feel like I can do anything successfully! So to all those toxic people who I haven't "met", do me a favor and don't bring negativity to my door... I'm much too busy achieving my possibilities.

Thanks for the reminder about "clearing" out relationships with toxic people. I am a student of Feng Shui and one of the main principles is to do space clearing. I have applied this to my home (working on my office) and primary relationships. But I forget I have the choice for those that touch my world in other ways. Friends and co-workers can toss comments or attitudes that are as pessimistic, at best. You reminded me that by releasing them, I am making room for healthier relationships to come my way.

Wishing you all the best success in reaching your goals.

Well put! I'm finding that the same thing is happening to me, since I've started making changes to my life... I just don't feel like I can be bothered with the passive-aggressive people who see what's wrong with their lives and expect it to change itself, or want other people to come and "save" them. Sure, we're all here to help each other out ... but you have to want to help YOURSELF before you can be in a place to help anyone else! :D Keep it goin', you're definitely headed in the right direction!!!

Good for you. It's hard sometimes to leave those toxic friendships behind, but remember, sometimes those people will come to the same realization later and come back into the light. As long as you try not to burn those bridges you still may be able to have a relationship with them later in life. Life's too short, though, to put up with the negativity and hatefulness that some people exude. Way to go for recognizing the need and doing something about it :)

On the flip side, I consider myself fortunate to call you a friend, both online and IRL now! Thanks for being one of those inspiring, positive people in my life!
