Okay, maybe happy is the wrong word, but I'm "fine" with it. See, I was on a cruise last week. And cruises are notorious for their food. Lots and lots of food. Any time of the day. Any amounts that you would want. If you order a dinner and don't like it, they will bring you out another choice within minutes. Or if you do really like it, they will happily bring you out a second complete dinner (as our tablemate can attest)!! You are never at a want for food on a cruise!
And I only gained 3 pounds! And 3 days later I've already lost 2 of them!!
See, the reason I am really fine with it, to the point of being happy, is because I made good choices given the situation. I will admit that I did make some not-so-healthy food selections while at the buffet, but I only went through the line once each time. I did not go and fill my plate up two or three times. Two mornings I even had oatmeal. Every lunchtime I filled half my plate with salad, then added on the other goodies. Even when my friends went up several times, I sat and just enjoyed what I got the first time around.
In addition to this, I made it to the fitness center once. I had wanted to go more often, but compared to the other three cruises I've been on, that one time was more than I had ever gone before :-) I was able to walk 30 minutes on the treadmill, though at a slower pace than normal. The fitness center was actually a bit intimidating since the treadmills were lined up in front of a full length mirror (groan) and the stairmasters were lined up right behind them, thus giving me an audience (double groan). The last thing I needed was the added pressure of going too fast, hitting a wave, and going arse over tea kettle while everyone looked on!
Finally, even though I only "worked out" once, I still tried to take the stairs a few times a day. Not always easy when your stateroom is on deck 2 and all of your friends are hanging out on deck 9 (yes, I typically was alone in my trek, since my friends prefered taking the elevator). On top of that, there was a lot of walking this week, on the ship as well as in Cozumel, our port of call. And even though my drinks of choice were usually fruity and frozen, I typically only had a few a day. Some days only having only one. Bottled water was usually my thirst quencher throughout the afternoon.
So, even though I still tipped the scale a bit, I'm damn proud of myself. Lord knows, it could have been a lot worse. Afterall, I was the only one of my friends that didn't complain that the clothes I packed no longer fit me by the end of the trip!
