MY SCALE IS WHACK!!

Friday, February 05, 2010

I was beginning to get discouraged because every time I stepped on the scale it seemed that I gained a pound or two or FOUR!! Not that I had any unrealistic expectations. I would have been happy with a 1/2 a pound per week!! I knew that I was eating healthier, exercising much more regularly and monitoring my calorie intake. Most of the time the calories that I consumed was slightly under the recommended daily calorie intake. (and yes, I know that can possibly slow the metabolism down.) So what the heck was happening!! I finally figured it out! I got on my scale three times back to back and each time I got a different reading. I know that I should get a different reading if I weighed myself at different times of the day, but not in the same minute!! And not a three to four pound difference. That's when I knew that my scale is as old as Methusala and I need a new one!! (whew!!)...Moral to the story: If u haven't used your scale in a month of Sundays, do a "scale inspection" before you lose it (no pun intended) and give up on yourself. Glad I didn't. emoticon

My scale is okay, but in my ancient house, my floors are crooked, so I can gain or lose a couple pounds by sliding the scale a few inches either way (and I'm totally willing to "trick myself" by putting it in a light spot on days that I'm feeling uninspired.)

I hope that is my problem too. I have been doing the same as you, on track and doing lots of exercise, staying within and sometimes going a little below suggested calorie counts, but still not seeing much happening. I have my old scale and my digital, and the old one shows about 3 lbs. less. I was even thinking, maybe I'm on a plateau already, but since I haven't had any significant weight loss, I can't be at a plateau. So, I put off my weigh-in from Sunday and I will try again tomorrow, and if I'm not down by then, I've gotta face facts and accept that either I didn't lose.... or now you've given me another out.... maybe I will see about getting a new battery - can you do that for a digital scale... Hope you get good news and continued motivation from your new scale.
