Spark Motivator!

Thursday, February 04, 2010

I can't believe several SparkFriends nominated me as a Spark Motivator! I didn't even know such a thing existed. My goal everyday is to log in and reply to message boards for members who need advice or motivation, but I didn't know I could receive anything as a result!

My decision to help motivate those who desired to lose weight came after my weight loss. First off, I had accomplished a goal, and being a SAHM (with a past career and MBA), I had no other goals to look towards. I would also get frustrated when I would read posts from members who were ready to give up and didn't think they could do it. I LOVE FOOD. If I could lose 95 pounds, ANYONE COULD. My philosophy: you have to really, really want it. ...and more than you want to eat the whole bag of chips or box of chocolates.

I accomplished my weight goal without cutting ANYTHING out of my diet. I eat everything in moderation, workout most days of the week, and keep track of my lifestyle using SparkPeople. I'm constantly reading new fitness and nutrition articles and trying out new recipes and healthy foods. I've grown to love fitness classes at the gym such as kickboxing, zumba, powersculpt, and step aerobics...along with running (which started off as walking). I AM NOT PERFECT! I also drink alcohol most nights of the week, but work this into my caloric range determined to maintain my weight. It may not be the healthiest alternative (food is better than liquid and more filling), but that's the type of adjustments I've made to fit my general lifestyle. I will always be a beer and wine drinker! Lol.

I can't emphasize enough the importance of never getting discouraged. I can't count how many times I've "fallen off the wagon" (and still do, of course). Every single day is a new start! Maintaining weight is as challenging as losing the weight. The key is to NEVER get discouraged, always seek out what motivates you, and remember how YOU are worth the battle. Since reaching my goal, my self esteem has increased substantially. This could be because I workout everyday, too. It just feels great!

So once again, thank you to those who nominated me. I love reading the message boards, being active in my teams, and meeting new people who are going through the same obstacles I went and sometimes still go through. For being a SAHM with a 9 month old, this has been absolutely rewarding. It truly brightens my day and gives me something to look forward to. My wish is to continue to motivate as many people as possible and help someone or many someones to reach their weight goal. Being overweight, for those who wish to be otherwise, is physically and emotionally challenging. With SparkPeople resources and its members, however, we can all help those when they really need us and remind them that reaching their weight goal is more than possible. It can actually be enjoyable.
