My son-in-law's brother died Tuesday night by asphyxiation during a seizure. He was unemployed and had no medical insurance, so his sister did not take him to the ER. If he'd had medical treatment, he most likely would not have died. It makes me wonder, how many people die each day in this country because they have no medical coverage?
For the first time in my life, I'm facing the prospect of not having health insurance. My COBRA runs out at the end of the month, and due to preexisting conditions, I can't get health insurance. Fortunately, I'm a Navy veteran, so I may have to turn to the VA for help. I hate the thought of using services that should be going to our returning veterans, but what choice do I have? My country is failing me and millions more.
