First Mini-Goal Met!!!

Friday, January 29, 2010

I'm so very excited for a couple reasons actually. This first mini-goal is so sweet because now I know I will be able to reach my ultimate goal instead of just wishing and hoping.

I'm eating more food than I have eaten in a day in years. My DH is happy because I don't think of making dinner as "cooking drudgery" anymore, I'm "preparing our nourishment". Puts a whole new light on it for me. That might sound strange, but my mental approach to food has changed. It really needed to. When you have a "deprivation" mentality, you really disdain what I used to call the "food thing". Now, I truly enjoy food preparation. I can't believe I'm even saying that! You just don't know where I've been in my thinking. It's such a shift for me. Since my attitude adjustment, I'm alert during the day and satisfied after meals. Thank God for this wonderful "food coach" tool I've found!!

I tell everyone about SP that will listen and you know what I'm finding? Almost everyone I talk to is just "shooting from the hip" like I was when it comes to food. Or just plain starving themselves thinking that's what you have to do to lose weight.

Yesterday, I sent an email to a friend in another state I'd lost touch with over the years (it's been 15+ years) about SP. In her reply she wanted to know how I knew she was struggling with her weight. It's been an emotional couple of years for her. She calls food her "drug" of choice. I hadn't seen any pictures of her and had no idea what she was going through. I just wanted to share my experience with her because of the positive changes it has brought to my life. She is checking things out and will get back to me. She's taking the bait and I know she'll get hooked!!

Today is not my weigh-in-day. I just "felt" different and had to check it out! It doesn't matter what the weather does today (supposed to get an ice storm), I have my favorite day on the inside!!

Happy, safe and productive trails to everyone. May it bring you as much joy as mine has!!!

P.S. It's so fun to watch that little weight lose marker move!! Guess it's the "little things" in life after all . . . emoticon

    Hey, congratulations.

I've become a proselytizer, too. Do you know there are business cards and flyers that you can hand out? They're under "Spread the Spark".

I've found that we're eating much better, too. My family seems to be appreciative.

Keep up the good work. Your writing is wonderful: clear
and expressive.

Deprivation doesn't work; taking great care of yourself is clearly just what you needed!

What a great blog! I think the changes that happen to us mentally are what ultimately is our success. Your change toward food is amazing! What a wonderful moment! I'm not quite there yet, but you give me hope!

You're doing great! And I wholeheartedly agree: this time, I don't feel like "Aw, crap, I have to cook." I feel like "Yay! What healthy stuff can I make tonight!" Sooooooo different.

Way to go, Jan! I can relate to so many of your "old" mindsets about deprivation. That's the way I used to live my life and it just didn't work. A few times when I was able to lose, it came back very quickly. It is awesome to discover that you can actually enjoy eating, and be at a healthy weight, too. I enjoyed reading your blog!

Congratulations and YAY!!!!!! This eating thing is a lot about our attitude towards food. When it cahnges so that we think of food as something to fuel our bodies, instead of entertainment , a friend,or a drug ..then we can start to be and feel healthy . I am so happy that you have set yourself free to begin the journey to a healthier you!!!
Kudos to you for spreading the Spark! emoticon

You are such an inspiration to me. First for you doing so well and then thinking about your dear friend you have had for so long and then emailing her to join us on Sparks. I do believe someone led you to her on the very day. I don't want to say too much as I know not everyone believes like me. But I do believe you just got to her at the right time for sure...good for you!...Merri
