Hour on Elliptical yesterday

Friday, January 29, 2010

I *Know* the calories burned on machines are only estimates.

I *know* my body bugg is supposed to be accurate at tracking calories.

I *know* SP is pretty good with calorie calculation.

I did an hour on the elliptical yesterday. It had me absolutely soaked with sweat. I had jelly legs when I finished, as I had put in some high intensity reps. I was at a 9.5 min mile pace, based on the 'distance' I traveled on the elliptical! I was moving!

However, my bugg only gave me a 611 calorie burn for this workout.
The machine estimated that I burned 1200 calories.
Spark Fitness calculated I burned 835 Calories.

(My 20 min Shred workout burned 211 calories on the bugg)

AAARRRRGGGGGG!!!!

You know.. if the machine estimate is so far off, no wonder there are folks who say 'I work out hard, but I still gain weight'.. that is a big difference!

Ok.. I've vented.

I need a better day today.
Plan: Run for 1 hour. Goal, 4 miles minimum. Not sure if I'll b e treadmill or outside. It's cold!!!! and getting colder!!! I might be a suck to day!

I'm looking at houses this morning with my realtor.

It's Friday!

Snow is coming! 4 - 6 inches by the end of Saturday. We'll be playing as a family, inside, outside, where ever. Nice, quiet weekend planned.

It used to be that an hour of running would burn me about 700 calories. Nowadays it is probably about 600, and I am running faster and further. I always wonder if the machines are set to tell you how many calories the workout will burn over the next 24 hours, or if the gyms just want you to feel like you are doing so much more when you are there. Keep you coming back.

Those machines don't take into account sex, age, and height. Just weight. So they are off from that. Another thing. Did you do an elliptical with arm movement? If not the bb might not have been quite as accurate. I have also found that it is still a lower calorie burn on the elliptical but when I add in my body burning at a higher rate for about an hour afterward it seems to average out and not seem like such a big difference. Hope that helps! I have the GWF. Not that it really matters since they are virtually the same thing but some people like to know. Anyway, have a good weekend!
