Shutterbugs and Age

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

Now this is going to be fun!!!! In briefly reading the instructions on participating in the weekly assignments...which I most definitely want to do...I felt a moment of panic. Oh, this is going to necessitate my learning how to use my Flickr account, which I have because my daughter insisted and set up for me. Somewhere I have an email with all of her instructions on the "how of Flickr". One of my favorite things is learning with purpose...and Shutterbugs has weekly photo assignments!!!!! I am sooooooo excited, because I love my digital camera! (My son was assigned the task of teaching Mom to use her camera.) Digital...why did it wait so long to appear???? It is just a remarkable find.

Yesterday, my Spark friend and fellow gardener, Pinetreegirl...could I put a link in here????...was sick...and not feeling well...I know this because she referred to her OLD self. She is 37. I thought ahhhhhh, she really feels badly.

Her post made me consider my age...and now Shutterbugs is pointing it out to me again! While I am not double Pinetreegirl's age...I am close. My body creaks and groans sometimes, but doesn't everyones? My sister...who is 8 years younger...sometimes referrs to herself as old...it always takes me off guard...wait, isn't she younger????? Age has given me the most precious gift ever, wisdom. I didn't know what wisdom really was...I always thought it meant being wise, smart, you know...but it means seasoned. With the right seasoning...things taste good. Even life. I'll admit there are some challenges that come with age...like this laptop I am using, Flickr, technology in general. I don't know when information technology appeared but it didn't come to me till my late 50s...when I took every adult education course I could find! I know a bit more than the basics...but it continues to be a learning process...right now I am wondering how many times I downloaded the picture for this blog entry...there must be away to tell. I see no "preview" button!!!!!!!

Anyway...to age, to health, to Shutterbugs!!!!!!

The photo...no matter how many times it appears...was taken in NYC. We had gone to see a taping of the Daily Show...and found these ladies gathering on the sidewalk.

    Hello KatieGlen!
I love your post! I have thought much this morning as I went about my daily rituals about the power of words and statement. It looks like my comment gave you some great reflection, and the conclusions that you drew are very strong and positive.
When my partner reached his 40's, the 'old people' jokes began popping up, and it's something that we use frequently, always with humor. In secret I suspect that I'm perpetually 23. I think that time passes quickly, and we just suddenly realized 'hey! I'm that person that I used to think was old!'
I love your metaphor that age brings seasoning. I think age brings with it a great deal of freedom. A lot of the surface pressures have subsided, I know what I like, and for the most part my paths are defined, or I know what i would like to define. It's fun to no longer worry about everything, and just selectively worry about some things!
I look forward to seeing your work as your class progresses! The photograph from New York was great--what a fun shot that must have been to find!
Happy Flickr-ing!

Maybe it is attitude that makes a difference. We stay young when we learn!
