82 lbs down.....60 more to go.

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

My accomplishments so far.....
1) I have lost 82 lbs over a period of 20 months averaging 4 lbs per month. that is including a 20 lb weight gain when i got laid off GRRRRRRRRR!!! :(
2) I have managed to drop 5 pants sizes from a 52 to a 42 - woo hoo!!
3) My BMI has gone from 51 to 40.
4) Ran my first race - a 10K

I have a long way to go on my journey but I know I can make it, just keep doing the same things that got me this far. I was at the gym the other day and saw on their TV a weight loss infomercial about some guy that got ripped abs and lost 30 lbs in 60 days yada yada yada.... Im thinking "wow, at 82 lbs, that makes me a rock star!"- no ripped abs yet though....

There is nothing quick fix about this journey toward wellness. Its about battling our personal issues one demon at a time. Its about unlearning all of our notions about what it takes to get it done and educating ourselves about the truth. I dont find it discouraging that I have 60 more lbs to go, it just means that I have a longer trip. I guess you could look at it as although a plane ride to the next state is shorter and costs less than a trip to Europe, but it is a more enriching experience. My journey is going to be longer but boy is it going to be worth it!

Thanks for all of your support and encouraging words, you guys have been great!

WOW! Congratulations on how far you've come! I am genuinely impressed! These are very inspirational words you share - and I am grateful for having read your blog! I've always been one to focus on what "is left" rather than what "is done". Your blog gave me a good reality check! I'm going to work on enjoying the richness of my journey. I'll focus on what I'm learning and more importantly, what I'm teaching my kids.

Thanks! You are truly an inspiration.

Thanks for sharing. I'm 11 pounds into needing to lose 200 pounds and today I was feeling a bit discouraged. So your reminder that it is a long distance journey is a great one. And congratulations on all the pounds that have come off. I'm starting to fantasize about running a 5k in 18 months and, for the first time, it feels like a possibility and not an unreachable dream.
