Walking in the winter wonderland!

Saturday, January 23, 2010

Winter Walk Blog
I had already made up my mind that this week I was going to do the Interteam Challenge of the BL Sapphire Beauties Wild Winter Challenge 09 for week 9, regardless of what it was. So blindly I click into the team to see what it was and this is what it said,
Depending on where you live this week’s challenge is to do a Winter Walk Blog.
One day this week write a Blog about your walk.
Pretty simple. Looking forward to reading everyone’s adventures. Let us know on this post when you've done your Blog so we all enjoy them.
The first thing that came out of my mouth was: Ahhhh man, I don’t want to walk outside especially in the winter time (don’t they know it is cold outside). The next thing I said was I should have looked to see what the interteam challenge was before I committed myself (taking a peek and then deciding). The third thing that I said to myself was I will get on my Treadmill and take a virtual winter wonderland stroll and imagine the cold weather. Finally I had to get stern with myself and say, “Look, get off your butt and put on your coat and get moving, you need that little bit of vitamin D from the sun.”
I put on my coat and I started to walk. Well much to my surprise I began to get warm very quickly. I even think I will invest in one of those vest without the sleeves because it was warm with all that moving. I actually enjoyed it. I walked on a paved street and the road was clear.
I think I might even to it again. I didn’t take my cell phone because I didn’t want to be distracted by a text message or a call or heaven forbid to get hit by a car. Yes walking in the winter wonderland can be quite exhilarating.

What a wonderful blog. I have forgotten how wonderful it is to go for a walk in the snow. That must be on my to do list next time I travel to the mountains before the summer comes. I live in San Diego so I have to go a distance to see snow. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

emoticon I take 2 days a week to walk outside for exercise. Even if only for 20min. It just helps clear your mind and the cool air is sometimes all we need. You should def. get a vest, that is what you was talking about. I have a down vest and I wear a thick sweatshirt under and my hat and it's all I need.

This year, I've been real lazy about walking outside. But last year, as long as the temp was above 22 and the wind was low, I'd get out there. Tomorrow, I'm going to walk at least a mile.

Well that is just fantastic. I love interesting challenges and I bet the cold is a good incentive to move faster so you body will warm up. Did you know that walking long distances has the same health benefits as running. I read something about that on spark two years ago.

I'm so proud of you. WTG. Wish we lived closer so we could go for those walks together. It's always fun to go with someone. If you didn't do it this time, be sure to take your MP3 player with you next time.... filled with songs you enjoy. Sure will make the time go faster.

Have a great day!

It is too icy here to go outside to walk so I've been spending a lot of time on my stationary recumbent bike. I'm proud of you for going for that walk outside. emoticon

I applaud you you go getter.
nice you can walk on paved road.
I agree with you. Nothing like fresh air. I live in the country but in my area. As I have mentioned at times while I have written. I am the danger zone of country roads. I could get hit. The plows push not enough snow away for walkers. Nor sand it for walkers. So my walk in the house power walk video's.

Yes the vest will help. It also may make you sweat seeing your doing a fast pace now. I had a vest two years ago outside. Time I was half way. I had to stand there. Take my coat off, and take that vest off. Ended up carrying it home. So dont get one that is too much fleecy inside. Unless you want to carry it home.

So a very nice blog.

I loved reading this! Don't we just try everything to get around what we need to do? I sure do! I love walking outside--once I GET outside! Yeah, get a fairly decent fleece vest and you will be soooo happy. Tell me about the sun? Is it that big yellow thing that used to be in the sky? emoticon Alas, it has become only a memory here in Indiana. emoticon

Keep up the good work--you are a great encourager! emoticon
