CANADIAN Diabetic exchanges

Saturday, January 23, 2010

Is there anyone here from Canada and if so, do you have a copy of the old diabetic exchange lists?

I lost my manual and wall chart in a move a couple of years ago, and am trying to get another copy. I have tried carb counting but just can't get a handle on it. The exchange program worked for me and I would like to go back to it.

If anyone has a copy, please Spark Mail me. I would be your friend for life! Thanks very much.

I just went for a refresher workshop and they are only using the Canada Food Guide now... I took a refresher course about 6 years ago and they were promoting the carb thing, but I just couldn't get with it. I too preferred the old exchange program. I was originally told to eat a food from each food group at each meal.

The other thing I find helpful is Joanna M. Lund's cookbooks, she lists not only the calorie counts but also the diabetic exchanges. They have several of her cookbooks at most libraries...

    good luck

    you can also try

    ealth/diabetes-diet/DA00077

    or

    http://diabetes.a
    bout.com/od/foodexchangelists/a
    /diabetesexchangelistvalues.htm

for their online referance guide to the exchanges ... though I do know that the Canadian Diabetic Association is now switching over the Carb counting over the exchanges (as my mom was first taught how to manage her diabetes, where as I was given the carb counting side of things).
