Looking Ahead

Sunday, January 17, 2010

I'm at my pre-holiday weight, so that's pretty encouraging. It would be a little nicer if I'd actually lose a pound or two, but I know it'll happen in time, so I'm trying to be patient.

I've started getting warmed up for my triathlon training. I'm debating a few 20 week programs to get ready for my main race in September, so for now I'm just building up some base cardio conditioning. For the last two-weeks (and most of the past year) I've been doing seven hours of cardio each week, and now I need to start increasing that a little bit each week so that I can get to the 11-12 hour per week start time for the training program with out dying.

Fortunately, my body is fine with the seven hours. It's just fitting it into my schedule that is proving to be difficult. So, that's all the more reason to practice fitting it in now, so that when it really matters it'll just be routine.

I've moved a lot of my computer time to BeginnerTriathlete.com, but I'm having trouble letting go of the tracking here at SparkPeople, and I'm not sure why. I track my workouts at work through MobileFit -we have contests at the Y that use the points in that program for water bottles, Tshirts, etc.

I track my workouts at BeginnerTriathlete because it's really set up for what I'm doing - it totals my workouts according to swim, bike, run, strength, etc. and provides bar graphs so that you can see if your training is getting lopsided, etc. Do I really need to do that at SparkPeople too?

Apparently I do.

I also think it's hard to figure how to use the Spark stuff for triathlons. The set up seems to think that I'm working out to much when I'm doing the bare minimum for tri training. Do you divide your week up into swim, bike, run/lift weights or do you have another set up? Good luck!

Well I'm glad that you still benefit from sparkpeople because we benefit from you too. I'm amazed at your triathalon focus - I get tired just thinking about the road ahead of you and yet I find it so inspiring. I will admit I want to hear how your journey is progressing because you do indeed have a journey ahead of you and I'm sure it will have uphills and downhills. I also know that there are so many hours in a day and getting your body into the shape which a triathalon demands is time consuming. Here's to figuring out how to make good choices on the road you are on and hopefully keeping us updated/posted on the progress. Support and encouragement to you today.

Nancy, I think it's so cool that you are doing a triathlon this year. AWESOME! To answer your question...no, you probably don't need to duplicate your work on both sites. That being said, I, for one, would be very upset if you dropped off Spark completely. I think you would miss your old friends, and we would certainly miss helping you stay motivated through this long process you are going to be going through.

You have to do what is best for you. I think that you could still stop and post a blog every now and then to keep us updated if you chose the other site for now.

Good luck with the triathlon and making your decisions.
