Feeling the fatigue today

Sunday, January 17, 2010

Starting to feel more of the radiation side effects now. No diarrhea yet, but close to it; going to have to really start watching what I eat again and will probably be back on my bland food diet before long. I have also been feeling the fatigue today; more so than when I had the radiation on my hip, but it's understandable, since there is a larger area being radiated this time. The fatigue from radiation from the body having to use extra energy to heal, since the radiation damages good cells as well as the cancer cells.

Before I got too tired today though, I was able to change the sheets on the bed and did two loads of laundry, and I did a short workout on the stability ball with my weights.

It warmed up today and started melting the snow. All afternoon, I was hearing snow from the roof landing with a thud on the ground below. I took advantage of the warmer air and went out and got all the bird feeders filled once again.

I tried to take a nap this afternoon, but only managed to doze off for a few minutes. But I think it helped a little; felt like I had a bit of a second wind. Still need to finish up my shopping list so I can get my groceries in the morning. And I also start the 2nd week of radiation tomorrow.

You know the drill with radiation better than anyone. Do what you can and be gentle on yourself. You are always in my prayers. emoticon

Hi Shari! My prayers are with you, too, for your cancer and radiation side effects - and for the insurance garbage, just an extra ugh.

Have you ever tried ginger tea? The dried-in-the-teabag kind is great for diarrhea. In fact, it will cause constipation in folks w/ 'normal' movements. Asian groceries have packets of instant ginger tea with sugar, too.

I was looking forward (in time not with relish) to April when I start my radiation and I was doing some research about radiation. Wasn't I gobsmacked to see that there are many different types of radiation. Were you part of the decision making process Shari, or did they just tell you what you needed. You are also very fair. What do you do to help to protect your skin from the burning? Good luck on your second week. emoticon
