Hey sparkies! I can't believe it's only been a week since I joined SparkPeople and in that week I have lost 10.5 pounds! I can't even fathom that! So proud and energized about this week to come. TWO questions for you today: #1: I'm starting a new job, so how do you guys balance a job and working out and #2. How do you manage your alcohol intake? Which drinks are the best choices? See ya around!! -Kelly

Congratulations on your very successful beginning :) I can't say I've just started my routine, but the restrictive eating is new for me as I try to lose a few pounds myself. I work full time (and over time) and find that I have to schedule workouts. If I don't drive straight to the gym after work, I'll make an excuse to not go back out in the evening. In the spring/summer/fall, I'm all about working out before work -- just toss on my sneakers and get my rear out the door. And I totally empathize on the drinks thing -- happy hour with my friends is dear to my heart! I try to make it one day a week, and as long as I'm vigilant the rest of the time with diet and exercise, I don't feel that one meal a week indulgence sets me back any (I eat light if I know a big meal is coming in the evening, and I'll even squeeze in a workout before or do double duty the next day) :)

Great Job on your weight loss! Congrats on the new job. Well coming from a busy busy woman you have to create a schedule. I find that doing your workout in the morning starts you off for a better day. It is hard to get up early but you do adjust. that way you don't have any excuses why you didn't work out that day like I got too busy, I was too tired. As for the alcohol none is best but everyone deserves a cheat day but limit you sugar drinks I switched to budweiser select low calories also rum and diet coke instead of regular coke. Swapping for diet pop help with calories. Moderation is key!

hey, congratulations on your weight loss! and on your new job!
what kind of exercise do you do?
if you are a morning person, it's great to work out before you go to work; but still make sure you get enough sleep!
if you work out at night, try to never skip more than two days in a row! and plan ahead, like bring your workout clothes to work, so you are more likely to go afterwords.
good luck and have fun in this adventure :)

Congrats on the job and the weight loss!!! Welcome to SparkPeople!!

If you're a morning person do the morning workout, otherwise go for after work. Strength training makes me hungry, so I do my strength training before lunch or after work right before dinner. Try different times and see what works best for you. Continued success to you!!!

Hi! Congratulations on your weight loss! I loved your Video Blog. You are so encouraging! Way to go! I only work part time right now so I can't offer much in the way of advise as far as balancing workout/job. But, in the past-when I worked full time, I worked out before work. This helped me with (1) getting my water in for the rest of the day-working out makes me really thirsty all day, and (2) night time was family time. I made myself a priority first thing in the morning and family was my priority at night. Also, do you need to work out twice per day? That sounds extreme for a beginner (And I'm a beginner, too). So maybe just once a day while you get your schedule in order, then you can fit in an extra workout when you have time. Also, Shape Magazine just listed Michelob 64 as a good alternative to the fruity drinks. Sounds like you're on the right track, there. Have a great week, and thanks for the great video blog!!!

Congrats on the weight loss and the new job. You are well on your way to a new you! I find it very difficult to maintain a good workout schedule unless I am very rigid in my routine. I always get up and work out in the morning before work. If I try to do it after work it just ends up getting cancelled because of some event or task that needs done. I also find that if I let myself slide, pretty soon I'm sliding every day. Therefore, I need to make myself get up and do it EVERY morning. This is just what works for me, but you need to find what works for you. I wish you the best on your continued weight-loss and lifestyle changes.

Answer to question #1: I'm not a morning person at all, so I stick to working out after work. But some things I try during work is 1) take a glass, preferablly one that holds about 2 cups and make sure it is full the whole day, if you finish the cup, immediately go fill it back up, thats a good way of getting your water in and 2) not sure what type of work enviroment you have, but take the stairs instead of the elevator, park your car a little farther from the entrance, etc and 3) if you walk past the vending machine, KEEP WALKING!! Don't let it call your name! Take a few healthy snacks from home that way you are not tempted.

Answer #2: Most people would say 'limit your alcohol intake altogether', but lol, thats a dream world. I pick one day out of the week, preferably the day you weigh yourself and eat one high calorie meal. If you chose to do that, you could drink your 'girly drink' on that day and not feel like you are being deprieved.

congrats! im not sure what to say because I think that is something that should ask your doctor. make sure you're not a diabetic because thats something you really shouldn't be having but just talk with your doctor to make sure or something like that. but if you do drink keep it in moderation.

Wow that's an amazing loss! Good for you!!! I'm so envious lol. I live by my dayplanner..always try to schedule time to get to the gym or exercise. if your workplace has a gym - take advantage of it! I'm not much of a drinker, so alcohol is easy for me to manage. I'm afraid I have no advice for ya there. I do like to have lite beer or a wine spritzer occasionally though. They don't do too much dietary damage. Best wishes to ya Kelly!

Good job! To answer your questions try working out before or after work. Depending on your schedule. And for alcohol, the fruity "girly drinks" are always high in sugar and calories. Your going to want to stick to either a light beer or drinks that don't contain multiple juices/syrups, etc..
